I've always found the Croft preamps to be quite a good match with the Quad II, although they are not without their idiosyncrasies. .......

Well I suppose that my four Philips ECG 6922s were a fairly small sample too, but they were supplied as the original valves, and two warranty replacements, in a Musical Fidelity X-CANS v2 headphone am .......

I would agree that the JAN Philips ECG 6922 is not a very good sounding valve, however I had three out of four go noisy on me within a 12 month period, so I don't think much of their reliability eithe .......

I've not bought any valves from retail sources recently, but I've used Billington (http://www.bel-tubes.co.uk/) in the past. The only drawback is that they do have a minimum order value. I can't remem .......

Do they have any etched codes? A Mullard CV2493 should have two lines of code, one directly above the other. The top line should say '7L' (for E88CC) and the line below 'RnX(n)' R for Mitcham, followe .......

Whatever the semantics of high or higher efficiency, I would say that the important point is that these very good loudspeakers can easily be driven by a low powered SET such as the original Border Pat .......

A lot of people say that the best red book version of Who's Next remains the one Steve Hoffman did for MCA back in 1984. I haven't received my copy yet, but this mastering is still available in Canada .......

One small point here. Just to clarify matters everywhere you said 'SCD-1/777ES' it should really only say 'SCD-1'. Lack of the phony balanced output is one of the few real differences between the Sony .......

There are only two versions of Blonde on Blonde on SACD, not three. These are the original 1999 single layer stereo version in a standard CD jewel case with a card sleeve over it, and the 2003 hybrid .......

Removing the analog tape hiss ALWAYS removes some of the music as well. It is NOT a good idea. Only cloth-eared idiots expect vintage recordings to have no tape hiss. .......

My DVD player is just plugged into a stereo television, but for the majority of the films that I watch even this is overkill. After all, most classic cinema films are in mono. .......
