The Oppo doesn't downsample on HDMI. Not 'neccessarily' at least. It does DSD over HDMI. Only reason they'd be listening to downsampled PCM is if that's all that their upstream HDMI receiver was capab .......

Don't use tape! Over time, tape adhesive changes, breaks down, sometimes liquifies. The clear nail polish idea is a better bet. .......

People are ripping their cd collections to files and selling off the discs. So there has been a bit of a used cd flood. Not so much in the case of sacd; by the nature of the audience (and less so now .......

The fan on mine has never come on. I use it as primarily an SACD player. I'm guessing the fan only needs to turn on when it's doing a whole lot of video processing/mpeg-4 decoding, such as is the case .......

From what I understand the reason is twofold: This plan came into being later on in the process, and by that time, the main hotel didn't have a suitable acoustic space that pleased Guthrie, AS and ATC .......

Distortion occurs in different manners across the audible band in different sections of the signal chain. Speaker distortion is not the same as distortion coming out of an opamp or gain loop, so your .......

The bdp-s370/s470/s570/s770 - are all very good on SACD; whether analog or HDMI. And yes, they do DSD over HDMI. Same goes, I can at least say, for s780. However, the one s380 (not s370) I tested here .......

The reason is that DST decompression was done with the Emotion Engine. While the PS3 Slim *CAN* do DSD-discs, meaning, it can indeed process DSD (the IBM Cell is used for that), the PS2 hardware, aka .......

The DV-RA1000 is not an "SACD recorder", it is a DSD recorder. It records DSDIFF files to DVD+R/RW. It can play its own discs back. It cannot play SACD, and the discs it produces are not SACDs. The DS .......

RIAA doesn't count single-inventory hybrid as SACD, they count it as CD. RIAA "sometimes" counts other hybrids as SACD, sometimes as CD. RIAA also doesn't count non-member company sales. (BIS, Analogu .......

I've done plenty of XA9000ES replacements. Same procedure and laser as XA777ES, XA333ES, C333ES, C555ES and even CE775. Remove the ribbon cables, unscrew the 4 screws in the blue cushions around the K .......

I have it. And have heard it directly at the SA Center, where it was worked on by Gus Skinas for Analogue Productions. IMO it sounds great and most of the quality of the analogue master comes through. .......

The PS3's capability to play back DSD Disc wasn't hidden... SACD was dropped because PS2 compatibility was dropped: the Emotion Engine (PS2 Hardware) did the DST (not DSD, but DST packing) decompressi .......

I actually have a Darkvoice 336se, too, that I had to install bypass caps on to get rid of a hum in pretty much every 6sn7 I tried. The ASL, though, has been good for years, and now this has just happ .......

I'm not sure if the 4308 will handle DSD over HDMI; I know it wont do "HATS", but I might as well give it a shot. It can process DSD, obviously, via DLIII and that works from my Denon 3930CI; so maybe .......

A lot of reviewers, sites, online stores, etc, get these kind of lists very wrong. After all, some sites said that the XA-5400ES was a 5-disc changer. There's no way a sony unit is going to do DVD-A. .......

That's a combination of the camera's flash and the contrast from the lights in the room, I think. In "real life", no, the getter flashing isn't nearly that dark - "silvery", lighter and more 'chrome-i .......

The guys here could likely answer better than I could, but when I had a problem with plate glow on my Dynaco Stereo 70s, it most certainly was not the tube. The culprit in my case was a bad capacitor .......

it uses a BB PCM1792 I believe, and the redbook on it is pretty damned good. It plays back the DSD discs you record to it. (in UDF format on DVD+RW). .......

I have the Toshiba HD-A1 (HD-DVD) and it recently enabled TrueHD. It doesn't do DVD-A; though I doubt Toshiba would intentionally disable it. More like nobody's paying more money for the additional li .......

MLP is just one part of the DVD-A spec... it isn't really "dvd-a technology", its just the lossless format that was chosen for it. TrueHD has always been part of the blu-ray spec, as well as HD-DVD. S .......

as an RBCD player it is honestly one of the best i've heard and I often prefer it when listening to RBCD. I think this may have something to do with the buffered reading, hefty analog section and BB P .......

Its a "Single layer SACD" as in it is not *HYBRID* but in physical format DVD-physical terms it is a "DVD-9" not a "DVD-5". As in, it holds 8.5gb of data vs 4.7. If you want to take me to task on this .......

Nothing says that the SBM (essentially division and quantization from 2.8mhz DSD down to any sort of PCM) has to be done at 44.1/16. The SBM stage could easily be done at 1/64 with 20 bit quantization .......

It's very simple. If each instrument is recorded in its own 16 bit space, post-fader you can end up with a dynamic range that is MUCH higher than a simple '16 bit space'. Unless everything wasn't cloc .......

I did a comparison here a while back. The 48/16 tracks on many DualDiscs are attenuated by 3-4dB giving an effective 14-15 bits of depth. 2khz extension isn't realized, either, as it appears to be ups .......

It doesn't do SACD's pit signal processing, specific UDF layout, or decryption; in other words no it won't read SACDs. Its discs won't play back on SACD players either, no -- this requires creating an .......

I've seen more situations - especially with stringed instruments - where DSD absolutely has just as much "bite" as PCM (but I wouldn't classify it as 'edge'). On a scope, the waveforms absolutely do .......
