I agree that there is an obvious heavy use ring of grey around the the gettering. A real warning sign that the tube will fail soon, i.e. not much life left. .......

Yes a 30+ watt tube amp will power your speakers to high levels. I recommend a Prima Luna that's what I use. You don't need 2 subs that's over kill unless you really are a bass head. There are a lot o .......

It's incredibly straightforward. Adjusting that dial makes the written English i. e. good or bad etc. on the meter apply to your test. I don't know if you can omit it and get a good Gm reading or othe .......

If you like that "linear" or crisp clean sound I would stay wioth the German tubes esp. the much admired Telefunken, Valvo or the less costly ones you are using. But for a really good deal you should .......

I don't know which ones you bought but the Sylvania, is not a grainy tube. The GTBs can be rich to the point of almost vibrational at first but only way down low. They should all have a smooth mid ran .......

The Antique Sound Labs (ASL) amps are all Chinese. I have no clue about the 6 triode sections driving the output but I suppose it's possible. It is an integrated with a few 6SN7s in it. .......

I use more elaborate heavy brass rings with rubber sprung o rings inside to grip the tube. The two I have like this are 6SN7 gt straight sided sized and work well. These are at least 15 years old and .......

I agree completely, Jim sold me an octet of reasonably well matched current Genelex KT-88s for my Jadis DA 60. It was magic I thought. The sound was so vastly improved, it sounded like a different amp .......

The only obvious visual clue to alert to tube value is loss of vacuum, where the tube turns white. It is unplayable at that point. Therefore it's not an indicator of gradual decay, it's catastrophic f .......

The EIA code for Tung Sol made tubes is 322. I have seen Tung Sols show up with a wide variety of names/labels. I think there are some Brimars that have round plates, but RPs are almost always Tung So .......

To use a blue tube because you like the aesthetics the I can recommend the JJ blue glass E34L. That is the correct designation E34L. They just slightly larger than a regular EL34. The sound all around .......

I think yes for safety but not always a good fit due to an amplification factor that is 70% of a 12AX7. It may not injure your amp, but it may ruin your sound. That said I have used the 5751 a lot and .......

I think the 5751 is a good choice as well. The 12AX7 provides the most gain =100% of the 12A-7 tubes and is generally crucial otherwise. Thus I wouldn't even consider something like a 12AU7 which has .......

National Union are very hard to find in pristine NOS condition but not impossible. They can be found as used in decent shape. The Color of the glass makes a difference as well, black is easier to find .......

I agree that the minimum is typically 60% of nominal new. Nominal new is frequently a matter of which tester you are using. This is generally what each tester will report as 'Good" and 'Bad' on their .......

Aren't EL-84s also called 6 Bar B Q 5s because they are run so hard. I don't think there is that much disparity when compared with the EL-34s. I never did understand why heat from an amp -the wattage .......

Many 12AU7 that has come along on eBay these days lack the "acid etch codes that I was told or read years ago were critical to identifying 7316s. They all came from the Philips Heerlen, Holland plant .......

Excellent! I knew that the gettering absorbed gasses and was flashed / activated inside the tube to do just that. What I didn't know, was what the metal "getter" structures did. We use that structure .......

I sometimes see vendors who decide I think in an arbitrary way to call any Amperex with a crooked bottle shape "a rare Pinched Waste..." I see them do something similar with 6SN7s They call all bottom .......
