I have heard the Bose 5 speaker Acoustimass system and for dance music I think they can fit what you are looking for. Speakers filled the room and played loud. No problems with room (25X25 feet) dimem .......

I have refoamed the Bose 501's ...not a hard job. They were not mine but when I tested the pair in my system I liked the sound very much. Played Bad Company/Led Zep (if I recall correctly) on them for .......

IMO Nikko gear was very good. I have the Nikko EQ1, NA690 amp , NT790 tuner and they have been in one of my stereo setups since 1978. Never a problem and they sound great. I would keep everything. You .......

I agree. It's not vintage folks hoarding the gear, it's the techs who rip them off. That's why I started fixing my own vintage gear about 15 years ago. Now I do everthing myself and even help others F .......

I have the Bose 301 II speakers and use them as my main speakers in one of my vintage systems. Background music or not I really like them. Don't care what other people think. Maybe because I'm a music .......

They were 2-way speakers...I have the 301 series II and they sound very good with about 20 - 50 watts. You can place them in any config and they can project a nice stereo image. Nice picture, seems to .......

Technics SA 5270 receiver. Got it for free and the receiver sounds as good as my vintage Maranatz, Sansui, Pioneer receivers with a better FM section than most. 35 wpc and it rocks. MattFLA ::: TOPIC: .......

I use Kimber Kable 4pr because I got the stuff for free and cheap no name stuff for the rest of my hookups. I don't beleive any cables make a diffenece so I use anything that is handy at the time. Ma .......

I own the 2325 and you will be very happy with. I also think it is one of the best looking receivers ever made. The walnut case does thr trick. I use Murphy's soap oil every few years to keep my Maran .......

Kilpsch Cornwall speakers. My ears just never liked them. Heard them over the years in different setups and never liked them. The worst was with Mac gear. I think it was the Mac 1400 receiver. Sounded .......

Mark When I got my Sansui 771 years back I was also stunned by the sound. It is a great vintage receiver. Then I got a AU3900 amd matching TU3900 tuner. The combo rocks at only 22 wpc! I know you lov .......

IMO the 2250B is the BEST sounding receiver Marantz made back in the 70's. I also own the 2325 and have owned or repaired many of the 22XX in the past but my ears love the 2250b. FM section is excelle .......

Peter RS should have the 110vac bulb to replace. I sold more Hafler gear when I worked at FLS in NJ than I care to remember. I have a DH200 still new in kit box, two(2) assmebled , and all the DH 200 .......

Grant I agree , what happened sucks but that's ebay. It sucks. IMO stay away from tape decks even for $10.00 unless you can repair it yourself or are willing to pay big $$$ to get it in working order. .......

EPI 100's. I have a pair and they work well with just about any system old or new. Surrounds need to be replaced but they are easy to do on this model. Very easy speakers to listen to for long periods .......

I also heard years back the CV Model 12T (maybe 312T) "Tower" system after I heard the Model 25's circa 1976. Those towers were a little more than 3 feet high , at about 80 lbs each, rated 98 dB @ 1 m .......

I have the Wharfedale Diamonds 7.2 which are small and would fit any small office area. I got a pair cheap and I have heard nothing that size as good as the 7.2's. The Atoms are good but IMO not close .......

I have removed rust with a Q-tip dipped in Coke soda. There's something in the cola that softly removes the rust from most metal objects. I think it's the phosphoric acid. Just brush it into the rust .......

I always use the loudness function on every piece of equipment I own. My ears don't like it any other way. Never use the bass/treble just the loudness function. Doesn't matter if it's a receiver, Int .......

The 1060 is great liitle int amp. I own the 1060B and at times I have felt the 1060B was a bit better but that's just me. IMO the 1030/1040 are very good low powered amps but I like the 1060/1060B mo .......

My TT and DVD/CD always stay the same. My amp/receiver/tuner changes about every 4-6 weeks. Speakers maybe twice a year. Right now..... Sansui AU 3900 Sansui T55 tuner AR TT Panasonic DVD/CD Pinnacle .......

I agree with Tadlo. I have a 771 and many marantz 22XX recievers and I always find the Sansui gear to be a bit bright with the top end. Very nice sound , just a bit bright. The Marantz are more laid b .......

Almost all of the receivers that I have fixed with 'intermittant noise' have had a bad connection. Turn the unit on,then tap around all the connections and see which one is the problem. The good news. .......

Shayan Go for it! I own an entire Nikko system and IMO nothing beats it. The 1219 is a great receiver and I would jump on it for 100 bucks as long as it's in working condition. I own a few vintage 70' .......

I have new speakers also(Wharefdale 7.2 Diamonds) and I have found that any vintage receiver I use I have no problem enjoying the sound.My receivers range from Pioneer , Sansui, Marantz from 25 watts .......

I own the 771 which is the same build as the 881 except a few more watts less power. I love it. I like the 771/881 even better than Sansui's 7070/8080/9090 line. I know I'm in the minority in that but .......

I never heard the KR-6600 but I would think it sounds warm and rich like the KR-7600 because it's just one step below the KR-7600 in power. Must have the same phone stage design. MattFLA .......

On this VF there is too much of the 'sneer' factor when it comes to equipment IMO. Technics made some great stuff back in the 70's and ealry 80's. I had a Technics SA 5070 receiver and that little guy .......

I always liked Rectilinear speakers and have heard the XI's many moons ago. I think they were driven by a Pioneer receiver at the time. Nice warm sound with a lot of bottom and they were in a very lar .......

I agree that the rectifier needs to be checked as aging drops voltage and there's also a quick easy mod to replace it. I would keep the PAS 3. I have a PAS 3x and leave it 'stock' and would not trade .......

I own a Sansui 6060 but have no idea about the Luxman 1050. The 6060 is well built and has a nice overall sound with a very good FM section. I adjusted the muting theshold because it was set too high. .......

The Marantz 22xx series are all classics. Which ones sound the best in always up for debate. The 2015 is great little powerhouse. Sold mime about 7-8 years ago to help buy a 2325 which I could not pas .......

I have the Nikko NA 690 int amp for over 25 years and I love it. Matched up with the NT 790 tuner gives me a warm big sound. The Nikko amps are hard to find and to my ears the best value out there BUT .......

I worked on a few 2230 and once I aligned a Marantz 105B tuner and I noticed the RF sections were very similiar. I think the 105B was 1974...2230 also 73-74..? That's just a guess.....Marantz knew how .......

I think because the older Sansui lattice grill speakers are hard to match up with other gear to make them sound good. I like the SP 2500/3500 which are the next gen after the lattice and they IMO soun .......

Hi rob, I don't think any Marantz 22xx is 'worst' but the 2270 is the last 22xx I would own. I have worked on a few and they seem to need repairs a bit more than the rest and it will balk at 4 ohm loa .......

If it's a warm sound you want than try the SX 626. The early Pioneers are known for that type of sound. The 2230 is also like that but IMO not as much in the upper range as the SX 626. As far as looks .......

Yes, I have an Onkyo TX 2500 and it gets hot near the fins after about 30 minutes or so. Just make sure the unit has good clearance on top and sides, about two inches all around works for me. MattFLA .......

Mike is right. You did not cause the problem by removing the screws. You most likely cause a 'short' in the output stage by removing the lamps/lights and putting them back you may have touched another .......

I use Kimber Kable 4PR to bi-wire my Wharfedale 7.2. It's comes with four strands and two are color coded so it's easy to bi-wire any speaker with them. Cheap, fexible stuff compared to the audiophile .......

Pretty much what Paul said is what the 'Servo Lock' FM function is doing. I own the TX 2000 at 27 wpc. It's a nice unit with a very good FM section.As far as controls go I think they work the same as .......

The tuner section on my Marantz 2325 is the best I have ever heard. Very sensitive and a great warm sound to all FM stations. Very full sounding stereo image also. The Marantz 2250B is as good soundin .......

ALways turn the volume to zero before turn-off(I'm sure you know that!)...if there is a sound fade, then a capacitor is starting to leak or go bad. No big deal but something to replace down the line. .......

The Crown EQ 2 is an excellent EQ. I sold a few Crown EQ 2's while I was working at an audio salon in NJ during my college years. It's a big unit but adds no noise to any system and is very easy to us .......

Gonzo I rebuilt a Sansui 661 a little over a year ago and had big problems finding parts for it. Test the entire unit, bring headphones and a cd player and some sort of wire FM antenna to check the FM .......

I think they do work well with modern speakers. I use a pair of Wharfedale Diamonds 7.2 with vintage receivers and the results IMO are fine. I bi-wire the Diamonds and I like the sound very much. Matt .......

AL I have come across the same problem with some vintage amps/receivers with the lamp being enclosed and part of the meter unit itself. Pioneer, Kenwood did this on some of their gear. My only fix was .......

I don't know about these being popular but I have a Nikko NA 690 and had the NA 890 integrated amps and to my ears they rival the vintage Pionner, Kenwood, Mac int amp for much less $$$. Sound wise th .......

There are so many but IMO any vintage Marantz speaker OR the EPI 100's work well . I have a Marantz 2250B and the Marantz 2325 that I use with the EPI 100's and the sound just doesn't get any better f .......

Just don't put them close to the TV\Monitor. Most vintage speakers are not video friendly. Too close and you get a rainbow of colors in the upper right hand corner of your screen! MattFLA .......

I have the Pioneer sx 636 and at one time owned the sx 650, sx 750. IMHO the '30' series sounded and looked a bit better. I like the front face of the '30' series much more than the '50' and sound wis .......

Ben, I would only change the caps if the caps were a problem. The Sprague 'orange drops' are great caps for vintage gear. I used them on my 1060 a few years ago and I can't tell the difference in soun .......

What you are doing will work fine. I have a stereo TV hook to a Pioneer SX 636 receiver and two sets of speakers. It's not HT 5.1 sound but still sounds great with the stereo TV. I would try the Wharf .......

Steve IMO and many others, the Sansui 8080 is one excellent vintage receiver. I think for $75 you got a great deal! It is very much in the 70's sound and can power just about any speaker. Built 1977-1 .......

It sounds like you need to rebuild the tuner/RF circuit which is common in many vinatge tuners/receivers. Average parts for this cost about $18.50. I have rebuilt the tuner/RF circuit a few times that .......

Yes, I have used tube tuners with SS . I say go for it. I've had Dynaco/Heathkit/Marantz tube tuners with a Hafler pre/amp and liked the sound . BUT I like the sound of SS better than tubes. Just my t .......

Then IMO it's the power supply that is your problem. You will need an ohmmeter to test the power supply filter caps and the silicon diodes. Both may have been 'shorted' by what you did. The most commo .......

Most blown fuses are caused by power supply or power output transistors. If fluses blow at once.......it's the power supply. If it takes a few seconds or minutes to blow .......suspect leakage in the .......

Before you do anything.....clean all the switches and controls with De-oxit 5 , then test the entire unit. So many problems are a result of dirty swtiches, contacts, etc. etc. Then take it from there. .......

The Sansui 9090 will have no problem driving your Advent stacks and some posts here on the forum state that the Marantz 2275 (not the 2270 ) will be fine also. You have two very nice vintage receivers .......

I have had this problem so many times. You turn the volume down and one channel drops out, turn the volume up and the sound comes back on. Your 2240b needs a cleaning. Buy de-oxit and spray all the sw .......

Yes....that's what I meant - a built-in what Sherwood calls 'DynaQuad' matrix ciruit that was not very good 4 ch stereo sound or design IMO. Very hard to trace a problem with a DynaQuad 7210 and even .......

I agee BUT I have worked on some Sherwood receivers and the 7100, 7200, 7300 are much better built than the 7210. The 7210 is a built in 'Quad' unit that is not as reliable as the others. Not a good d .......

If you are looking for a more 'tube like' sounding receiver then the 2230 is a good choice BUT IMO the Marantz 2250B is better. They are hard to find but worth it. The sound is the best from the vinta .......

I would try to listen to the EPI 100's. Very smooth overall sound and very neutral balance. Nothing like you hear with today's A/V speakers. I like the Advents but I like the EPI 100's better overall. .......

I own the 2325 and had the 2270 a few years back. The FM section of the 2325 is better than the 2270 and it's alot more versatile. I sold the 2270 because I have a 2250B that sounds better. I keep the .......

Pioneer receivers seem to have very good FM sections. I own the SX 636 and at one time the SX 650 and SX 850. The FM sections were all very good. The later 70's models may have more sensitive tuners t .......

I can almost say for sure that it's a bad/shorted/leaky output transistor. A shorted or bad output transistor may run hot to the touch. Feel each output transistor and compare them. All output transis .......

I bet it's a dirty Tape Monitor switch. I have a Pioneer SX 750 that had a similiar problem but it only happened in the left channel. It would 'pop' also no matter cold or warm, low or high volumes. C .......

I had a SX 950 with the same problem. RF section on the unit was fine, good stereo reception and all but tuning meter did not work. I had to wait many months before I got a hold of a 'parts only' Pion .......

Well on all of my Marantz receivers(2238, 2250B, 2385) when all the lights are OK, the tuning dial is very bright across the entire face, no dim spots . I don't know about the 2275 but maybe it would .......

IMO I found nothing special about VR. They do seem to make decent quality gear but the one receiver I heard (model 4000/5000) I was not impressed with. Plus this unit is missing a knob? I would not go .......

The Pioneer SX 636 seems to work great with the HPM series of speakers. I own one and like it because the FM section is great and it has a nice warm sound to it. Looks pretty cool too. Caution: Years .......
