I've owned both the Modwright 999ES and the 9000ES. I kept the 9000ES and haven't looked back. Much better built and sounding than the 999ES. Romantic?? Not to my ears. I wouldn't characterize the 568 .......

I really like the GE JAN 7044s on the cd player. They are a driect replacement for the 5687s. I ran them on my 999ES when I had it, and now on the 9000ES. They are inexpensive also, by NOS tube stand .......

Yes, absolutely correct, CD-RWs will work fine on the 9000ES. I tried TDK CD-RWs and they sounded horrible, Memorex CD-RWs sounded average, but the Fujifilm Audio CD-RWs sounded excellent. Your mileag .......

Well, to each his own, I guess... I tried the JJ E34Ls, the JJ KT-77s, and SED "winged Cs" in Dodd 120 tube monoblocks. To my ears, I found that the E34Ls and KT-77s sounded more alike than different. .......

Joule also uses this tube in their LA-150. Frankly, I have not liked any preamp that uses this tube, and haven't kept the preamps longer than a month or so before getting rid of them. .......

I owned this preamp for a little while earlier in the year. It was quite nice, and posessed more of that "classic" tube sound. It produced a very nice soundstage and voices were really natural soundin .......

Use the "right" tubes in the BAT VK-D5 and you won't hear any of these sonic deficiencies described. The BAT is a very nice player with terrific sound using Amperex 7308s. Just like anything else, sys .......

Put the right tubes into the VK-D5 to really see what it's capable of. I use Amperex 7308s in mine, and "dark" certainly is not one of the descriptors I would use for the player! To each his own.... : .......

I second the EH KT88 recommendation. I also like the EH 6SN7s also. However, NOS 6SN7s (e.g. Raytheon VT231, RCA VT231, Sylvania 6SN7W) are all better. Here's a link to a shootout of some 6550s and KT .......
