I use the Ventas also. We have three different sized ones for different rooms. I try to keep the RH at 40%, at least. This is a good, safe level for my guitars too. .......

Interesting. The output impedance is 750 ohms on the remote Quicksilver pre, but only 100 ohms on the non-remote. My old Full Function Quicksilver pre has an output impedance of only 12.5 ohms. Works .......

My preamp (Quicksilver) uses one 12AU7. I've tried a lot of different NOS versions and have a few favorites. For what you describe (good bass slam, etc.) I found some old Tung Sols really good except .......

I bought one used about 2 years ago. I couldn't live with the 6x4 failures and had Quicksilver convert it to the 5AR4 version. It's worked flawlessly since. I'm very happy with this preamp. ::: TOPIC .......

When I change tubes in my Quicksilver preamp, I unplug it too. If it's been on awhile, I let the tubes cool before attempting to handle them. The manual for the preamp specifically says to unplug it, .......

If the switch is like the one on my XL-280, you should be able to get a replacement fairly easily. I replaced the switch on my XL-280 with an SPST lighted rocker switch like the first one shown here: .......

We have two cats right now - Jack (11) and Agnes (19). Agnes is very near to the end. We give her subcutaneous fluids twice a day because her kidneys don't work so well anymore. She just lies on her p .......

I had 1.4s for about 13 years before the grid wires started separating from the Mylar in places. .......

My Hafler XL-280 has been on for almost 15 years. The only thing I ever replaced on it was the lighted rocker On/Off switch. .......

It should last a loooooooooong time. I have used a Hafler XL-280 for, I guess 14-15 years now. I leave it on all the time. The only thing I ever had to replace on it was the lighted rocker On/Off swit .......

Could someone explain the significance of current ratings to me? I'm told that my Maggie 1.6 speaker like a lot of current. Well, what is "a lot" of current? Not all amps seem to list current ratings. .......
