Soundsmith makes a handful of moving iron carts that need a step up, but I think the cheapest one cost $2000. They make a bunch that cost less, but they have a high output and work great with the stan .......

Ortofon uses the Bronze label on at least 3 different cartridges, one moving magnet and 2 moving coils. If you have the 2m bronze it cost about $400, and it has a removable stylus. If I am not mistake .......

I have no interest in this system, but I did notice on Amazon that for $20 more, you can get a similar system that they call Hi Res. That means the USB port will accept files up to 24/192. Hard to bel .......

I tried to look up your cartridge. All the ones I saw that were similar had conical styluses. If this is what you have, odds are the thickness of the record won't make much difference. In this regard, .......

I find that very fine adjustments make a big difference with advanced styluses, and this puts Rega arms at a big disadvantage, if you are not using a Rega cart. I had a Rega arm on my VPI HW19 for man .......

I can also recommend Brit Audio. They rewired my Rega arm after it developed an internal short. The work quality was excellent and they got it back to very quickly. .......

I suggest after you clean your records, you do a rinse with distilled water. I do 2 rinses and it makes a difference. Back when my VPI 16.5 was new, a woman named Enid Lumley inspired a lot of debate .......

That Jarlick looks just like the one I use, but it does not have a brand name on it. The 30x lets me see that the stylus is clean, but the 60x is hard to focus, since minute hand movements move it in .......

You are absolutely correct about VTA. I can and do adjust with my VPI Prime, and so some of my thicker records do sound fine. Before, with a Rega arm, I could not adjust, and it made a big difference, .......

I personally have never owned a Rega turntable, but have had an RB300 arm for more than 20 years. I changed to a Expressimo counterweight and got significant improvement. Then I shipped it off to Engl .......

Preamps have either moving magnet (high) or moving coil (low) inputs. If you can't get full volume with an acceptable amount of noise, then the cartridge output is too low for the preamp you are using .......

I bought 3 or 4 of those in a row when I 1st discovered them back around 1990. I eventually went to a wood bodied Grado. Totally different but much warmer and more rewarding. .......

My VPI HW19 came with a metal platter. I bought the Ringmat based on a review and loved the improvement. I recently uograded to the Aries Black Knight platter-same as scout, only thicker with bigger b .......

I bought my HW19 in 1984, before there was even an MKII. The progression of platers as I recall MKI has a 20 lb solid Aluminum platter. Mine came with a screw down clamp. There may have been an earlie .......

I know you need to be careful shipping or transporting it because the bearing is fragile and can crack if not properly secured. I think the bearing is made of sapphire.. almost as hard as diamond, but .......

I tried Herbie washers with the clamp on my VPI but it deadened the sound too much. I used his smaller washers on all my screw-in spikes and like that a lot. His little footers work wonders under my D .......

Harry Weisfield, the HW in HW19 has written, I think on this board, that he thinks DC motors like the Teres deaden the sound, thats why most TT makers use A/C, even though they are noisier. Buy a SAMA .......

In the olden days, when I was a kid, before CD's, most people horrible record handling technique. Many had record changers. You could stack 5 or more records on a spindle that held them 3 inches above .......

where you buy list price $3k cartridges for $200. I once bought an $800 Clearaudio for $500 from a dealer in Holland, but thats about the best deal I've seen. .......
