The second cap stayed "large" electrolytic, only the first was replaced by polypropylene 47uF, later added another 47uF in parallel with the first, no difference... Bypassing the electrolytics with FT .......

My amplifier had CLC, 220uF-1.5H-220uF, Samsung caps According to the prevailing criteria, I replaced the 220 with 330 Aerovox caps, sounded worst... Intrigued by the "heretical" ideas I replaced the .......

I am sure it varies with different systems, in mine the small tubes did improve things, detail for instance, but the power tubes change more the personality of the sound, my system, of course... Anton .......

The JJ took forever to burn in... I use an active crossover before the amplifier and a subwoofer, so deep bass is not an issue, still bass is very tight and fast with the Gold Lions, and most importan .......

They sound both very good, similar rich mids, body, natural, 3d, the Genalex a bit livelier, more "extended" highs... Depends oh the rest of the system, if it is bright, the JJ might tame it a bit, ot .......

Except that my favorite EL34 where the Siemens/RTF, also liked the sound of JJ KT77 very much, thick body, perfect mids, but tube fireworks and checking and adjusting bias all the time to avoid them, .......

I got a platinun matched quad, apparentely they are supposed to be matched in the factory, not the dealer, but only 2 where matched, one lower, the other higher, 10 mA difference on my amplifier... An .......

But those two French guys had one tube short each, blew the resistor, nothing else... I also had a KT77 shorting, but I was fast enough switching the amp off, and avoided any further damage... Antonio .......

The original value of R12 and R13 was 22K, that way the minimum current I could get on the hottest Gold Lion KT66 was 62mA, way too high, as you well say, there is a very small built-in range to preve .......

For each channel: R22, VR2 and R12 determine the load for bias for one tube, and R23, VR3 and R13 for the other, there are 4 tubes with bias supply in parallel, right ? Of course it is not exact, as V .......

My amplifier has CRC, 100uF 820ohm 330uF, resistance to ground for each tube is approximately 32ohm, so with 4 in parallel load is app 8Kohm, which gives -48V bias max... The GL reissue KT66 will run .......

I know my amplifier is not an aikido, but the first stage is exactly the same, of course the similarity stops there, as mine is a push-pull... SRPP takes the output of the first stage from the cathode .......

I got a quad to replace Shuguang KT66, this are my impressions after a few days, in my amplifier/fullrange speakers... Both KT66 sound livelier and more dynamic than JJ KT77, my previous very unstable .......

The seller told me he gets already "matched" quads from the Genalex, doesnt do the matching himself... I wouldnt think it would be difficult for the manufacturer to test and sort a whole batch of tube .......

I agree with everybody explanations, but sellers should either write THE CONDITIONS FOR WHICH THEY WERE MATCHED, or not say they are matched, and just give individual tube measurements, like some on e .......

This seems to be a very popular circuit in the DIY comunity, so it must be reasonably good, still many tell me to ditch my first stage, exactly the same as an aikido, since I removed NFB, cathode cap, .......

You will see that I measured the tubes in different slots, and the readings where the same, so the tubes are different... I would expect that this is the minimum matched should mean, same current with .......

It is the 3rd quad I buy supposedly matched, set bias to min for all tubes, and bingo, they never match... :( And no, it is not my amplifier, I move the tubes to different slots, and each still measur .......

My amplifier came with EH 6CA7, bought SED winged C EL34, then Siemens EL34, same as RTF, the later are the best of this lot, by far... Then JJ KT77, sound very good but are unreliable, now I use Shug .......

Only with the ear against the center of the speaker do I hear a very, very slight hiss, it has always done at least a bit more hiss than now... And only from the right channel, a friend was surprised .......

I always had the 1st cap in the same ground as the center tap of the transformer, plus the 2nd cap plus the cap for the driver stage, without any hum, the hum started when I added the caps for the inp .......

Good question... ;) I am not the right guy to answer, but I will try, it is a design choice, the amplifier has 3 stages to work, input, driver and output, at least mine are like this, regardless of us .......

The pre section of average integrated amps is not their strong point, I also used pre-in with my previous Cayin, but have no idea if it only bypassed volume, I doubt it also bypassed the input stage.. .......

I had Philips MKP .068 uF 1600V bypassing a couple of 330 uF 450V, doing a few mods, I relocated the 330, and didnt bother with the MKPs, the sound became thin, less bass, unpleasant highs... :O MKPs .......

I like very much the sound of the K42 as coupling caps in my amplifier, I installed them the same time I intalled the K40 connecting the grid of the drivers to ground, and the result was very good... .......

My supplier has some Siemens PIO 2uF 250V, right size, and not too expensive, so I will use them between the output of VR2 and VR3 and ground, should be a very good compromise... I will report the res .......

Thanks, D3 and D4 are already a full wave rectifier, notice they are getting two times 38V out of phase, same with D1 and D2... FR307 are 3A 1000V, hopefully the Cree 5A 1200V will handle the job... 4 .......

I always found better low level feed - it doesnt make sense to me to add distortion to bass - it makes sense to avoid distortion to the rest of the range, by sending bass only to the subwoofer/s - it .......

I agree with you, one cannot just remove NFB from any amplifier... Mine only had 5 db, and the manufacturer mentions the open loop measurements, wich are already better than many tube amplifiers with .......

You probably right, had one replaced by JJ, it was totaly out of control, couldnt bias it less than 50mA, then it would drift up and down, they said it was a rare problem and sent me a new one... Oddl .......

Did more tests, the voltage from the transformer taps is always correct, -37V, both diodes work (full wave), only one way, the resistor is also ok, 820 ohms, the voltage after the diodes normally is - .......

Dont forget I removed global NFB, and use them in Triode mode, I did find several amps without grid stoppers, even with NFB, I dont think that will be a problem... The possible problem is blowing a tr .......

Removed them... There is a bit more hiss, rather than the previous shhh, it sounds more like frying eggs, still only heard with the ear close to the speaker... Otherwise, before bass and highs kind of .......

I am running mine at the manufacturer's recommended 40mA, some suggest to run much higher, around 60... Will not do it with the old Siemens EL34, particularly after one went fireworks the other day, m .......

As you probably noticed, I have been using this amplifier as a training lab... Since I replaced the "broken" CAP, it doesnt have any particular shortcommings, well balanced from bass to treble, beauti .......

My Schallwand speakers use this drivers a bit modified, holes on the whizzer cones and violin varnish coating... I have seen the use of some sort of foam behind the whizzer cones recommended for simil .......

Replaced the defective CAP C13 with a Nichicom, proper 15 Kohm in place of R28 (flea market) 2 x 30 Kohm in parallel, 820 ohm R3 cathode resistors to compensate for the previous removal of R4 series 8 .......

When the R28 burned, I went to a couple of local hifi and electrical stores trying to buy a replacement, also asked a guy that modifies mainly CDs, but the only place in Riga where one will find elect .......

The KT77 need a lot of time, in my system, the mids sound much better then with 6CA7, but the second have a bit more bass and maybe more dynamic... Antonio Melo Ribeiro .......

This time it is more than a tweak not working, it is the amplifier, one CAP burned... But in the middle of this mods, there was one highly recommended, to remove the CAPs in parallel with the cathode .......

Remember I removed the 82 ohm resistor in series with the 750 ohm, so 820 will make it more as it was originally, and is the same value as the cathode resistor for the second triode in the tube... As .......

My speakers are 4 ohm, with one Cayin A-88T, bass was tighter, and sound better in general using the 8 ohm tap, with one Classic 16.0 it is exactly the opposite, so let your years decide... Antonio Me .......

Removed R28, measured 14 Kohm to ground, removed C13, measured circa 300 Kohm to ground, the sum of R30, R31, R32 + VR4, as it should with C13 in place, if it was OK... So it is proved that, although .......

Filament voltages are between point 4 and poin 9 of the tubes, 6.3V ? I did measure that, it starts at 6.1V, but soon, as the filaments heat and increase resistance, go to 6.3V Voltage from the rectif .......

Is 15Kohms 4Watts for R28 the only change I have to make ? I already did this, but something is wrong, one guy said C13 could be blown, but it looks like new, I know now how to check if it is working .......

JJ KT77 - best midrange, my favourite current production Winged C EL34 - better bass, dynamic, but not as musical as the KT77 EH 6CA7 - not bad, but boring sound compared with the other two I use NOS .......
