IMHO, it is likely system dependent. I would not be so quick to dismiss the soundstage impact from output tubes. In my SE EL34 tube amp, I experienced the greatest depth and width of soundstage size w .......

In general, input tubes are "auto-biased" so non-matched ones should work fine. The Phase Inverter tubes should have matched dual sections. The Power Output tubes are the ones which need to be matched .......

I agree that the B+ has an effect on the sound. However I have tube rolled 3 Mil Spec tubes of the same 5R4 family. The RCA is US mil. The Philips is Holland mil. The Brimar is UK CV mil. Mil Spec tub .......

The so called "Good" and linear sounding Siemens EL34 were actually made by RFT and have the dimple top. By Dimple top, I mean that there is an indentation inwards when you look at the top of the tube .......
