Tube. I played around with both passive and JFET buffer and was fairly impressed with those modes as well. JFET mode was actually preferable on Allison Krauss's 'Forget About It' CD. She has a certain .......

There are power amps that don't have that much capacitance. The new Vincent Audio SP-332 amp I just got a month ago has a lower gain than my previous amp so the Freya may be called on to provide more .......

Yeah, the left side of the top is actually hotter than the tubes. It does have two transformers under the top on the left side which is pretty shallow so there's not much space. .......

A big difference between the XPA-1s and the XPA-2 besides being mono blocks is all of the filter capacitors are wired in parallel giving you I believe 180,000uF of capacitance! You will never run out .......

You could use the side rails as a template to duplicate them from the bottom of the speaker up, but have the wood flare out and down a foot or so to stand them up. Think free standing dressing mirrors .......

Well I decided to give the Vincent SP-332 a try and ordered one from Audio Advisor today. I'll give an update after I've run it in for a few weeks as everything I've read on this and other Vincent amp .......

They do have a big mono block that puts out 600W in to 4ohms with 50 of it in Class A but I can't find it anywhere in the US. Interestingly it has no tubes. It's probably out of my price range anyway. .......

The shop I bought the Adcom 535 from tested every piece of gear with you there before taking it home. My 535 put out 95 watts per channel into eight ohms. The staff would place bets on how much 535s w .......

Magnepans do not present a difficult load to any amp that can provide current into four ohms. They are almost purely resistive. However they are very revealing to anything up stream. .......

I would never cut the low frequencies of my 1.7s or any magnepans for that matter! Magnepan bass is one of the deciding factors for me having Maggie's. Subs by any manufacturer will never equal the sp .......

Emotiva has a mono block called the XPA-HC1 for 699.00 which is half as wide as their regular amps. It's powerful at 300 watts in to 8 ohms and 600 into 4 ohms. They're switch mode class H so also run .......

I'm currently driving my 1.7is with an Emotiva XPA-2 gen 2 which is no longer available but if I were to upgrade I would definitely give their XPA-DR2 Differential amp a try. You can even find dealers .......

That's why I have a dedicated listening room. I do anything I want in it, from acoustic treatment to placement of speakers and gear. I know that not everyone has that option but I'm too serious about .......

You would probably benefit a great deal from bass traps in that room. Just be sure to build or purchase real bass traps, not those foam wedges that get tucked into corners. They don't have enough mass .......

I'm not adventurous enough to do my own crossovers. I bi-wired my Monitor Audio Silver 2s simply because I could so I already have the cables for it. I just combined the leads down to two banana plugs .......

Personally I think one is better off with the Magnepan of your choice and two good, small, non ported sub woofers such as the Paradigm SE subs that I'm using but aren't made any more. .......

A lot of people are suggesting a more robust amp. If you take that route, look for an Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 2 on the used market. A lot of Emotiva owners are selling their Gen 2s to "upgrade" to the Gen 3 .......

That's actually a pretty respectable increase into 4 ohms. A lot of companies who's amps specs show they double power into 4 ohms are being conservative with their 8 ohm spec and generous with the 4 o .......

Yeah, with the XPA-100 mono amps for 808.00 dollars you not only get good power for the MMGs at 400 watts into 4 ohms, but biamped power to boot. I would personally go this route rather than the XPA-2 .......

Safety device or not, the fuse in all Magnepan speakers are in the direct path of all the current going to their tweeters. The fuses Magnepan supplies with their speakers use a cheap tiny piece of tin .......

I found these fuses after a long Internet search. Much less expensive than HiFiTuning fuses. I've put them in my MMGs, which are still breaking in. I'll swap them out for the stockers in a few weeks t .......
