Just so I a understand, the Piccolo is a head amp, but if the budget is right and the values match appropriately, adding some form of pre-preamp gain is not an inappropriate thing to at least try, yes .......

Exactly. If you are worried about getting the clean side dirty again, simply make something to always put the dirty side down on, then remove it and you can put the clean side directly on the platter .......

Sorry to be unclear. The arm board and the platter seam to be in lock step. Slight pressure applied to the back right corner of the arm board brings the platter level, although this puts the arm board .......
