Strange, I went the other way. My first "separates" system was a rather imposing (ridiculous for the pace it was loaded into) 3 way bi-amplifies Pro JBL/ Macintosh system. far more suitable to a club/ .......

I found the electro-harmonics "gold pins" 6SN7 EH (Tested & Matched) tubes that came with my preamp were pretty decent and I suppose they're reasonably priced. I keep them for backups. .......

My SS amp is always on. My tube pre mutes for 45 seconds at turn on to prevent damaging transients. I get maybe a few pings from the tubes initially but after that silence. Seems to work great. ::: TO .......

All I can say is it's the best amp I've heard period. My average spl listening levels are in the roughly 80db -90-dB or so at seated listening position. The tube pre and SS power have proven out to be .......

The Joe Weed disc is one of the best sounding SACDs that I have or have heard and, IMHO well worth the price. The musicians "jell" and it really starts "cookin" over the second half of the disc. Here .......

I've used both Tube and SS pre-amps in my system and find the one I have now provides the attributes I liked in both kinds. Its a SS Accustic Arts Pre 1. I find it is very 'synergistic' in my system. .......

I traded mine to a friend (aware of the problem) and received the Bob James In Hi-Fi SACD in return(yawn). The cracks on ‘The Well” were pretty prominent and around and extending outward from the spin .......

I had “The Well” SACD and although it was very well recorded and mastered the damn thing cracked! Personally, I don’t find this recording anywhere near as “involving” musically as ‘Famous Blue Raincoa .......

There seems to be such a wide range of opinion on the 2 channel track on this one. Reports are anywhere from From "Great" to "so hot and compressed, playback at any reasonable level can make your ears .......

It's a switch on the back of the unit labeled "standard" and "custom". By default it is set at the factory to "standard" and that means the filter is engaged. If you want to remove the filter from the .......

I have used many amps both Tube and SS with my Klipschorns and I find the one I use now, a highly upgraded 60 wpc pure class 'A' type amp gives me the best sound yet in over 30 years of trying. ::: TO .......

I think they have to have the machine to tell which parts are needed in your particular unit. They should be able to get all the info from Sony and, if they are competent, should have no trouble doing .......

Just set it at a low but easily audible level. You will probably hear a rapid tphhtt tphhtt tphhtt type of noise for a short duration at the end of the last track on disc 2. .......

Mine wasn't modded but seeing as this is a known fault and, unless your modding changed that IC, I don't see why Sony wouldn't still repair it under warranty. Take it in, you shouldn't have to put up .......

Sony was insistant that the two chips listed in the PF article are NOT original chips but upgrades. I guess the Ver 2.40 in our units are older original chips. I am aware of one case where the S23 lis .......

I don't believe that is the case. The vast majority of the market is for 'Redbook' CD and when they go to the trouble of re-mastering they want to provide the best product within the allotted budget. .......

In my experience I find that in an "all things being equal" situation, SACD is a more involving and musically satisfying experience. IMHO its not a subtle thing either. I've always described the SACD .......

I find the levels on this a bit to low and it almost has too much dynamic range if that makes any sense. If played back at levels where everything sounds "normal" when the crescendos hit they can tear .......

I am looking for a DVD-A player mainly for 2 channel audio reproduction. Anyone here have experience with this unit and how does it rate on a sonic level? It will be used in an "audio only" installati .......

It's a shame that some people are put off by the need to use menus, because I think many titles sound very good in hi-rez PCM, especially in 2CH stereo. Heck its not the menus, its having to attach .......

Don't blame DVDA specs as it is the record label/artist choice to release a 2 channel disc or not. All that is needed for 2 channel only releases is contained within the specs. Most people in this w .......

While I have found many Redbook CDs that sound as good as or better than some poorly mastered SACDs if approached on an "all being equal" basis I have never heard a Redbook, no matter how well done so .......

I've been extremely happy with both the SACD and Redbook reproduction of my SCD-1. I also use all Cardas interconnects and power cables. Heck I even have my Klipschorns internally rewired with Cardas. .......

Maybe it's not practical but, the idea of the SACD only player is the optimization of the unit for the format from the transport on down. I would prefer totaly seperate units for SACD and Redbook. Sur .......

Yes, as the figures show there would only be about a 3db gain. The only advantage to going to a bigger amp is if the construction, 'specially the power supply were much more substantial which I don't .......

It is supposed to be used if the amplification that it is fed into can support extended HF signals. I use a tube pre which doesn't have that range so woudn't take the chance therefore I don't use it. .......

Agreed, I don't know why they bothered SACDing this one, at least for now. There are probably many other titles in their catalogue that would benefit more with SACD eg: Dylan's 'Desire' and 'Blood On .......

Since I am running 35' lengths I keep them the same. I would tend to think it would be a good idea to maintain the 'symmetry' unless there is a compelling reason not to do so. .......

The feedback I get is that for wide distribution Universal will be distributing them as "domestic" here but, they will be brought in under their "import" arm. It's not expected that they'll be priced .......
