If you only get one channel with the mono button pressed in, then the contacts in the stereo/mono switch are probably dirty (very common in units this age for switch contacts to corrode or get dirty). .......

Some belts are machined to be smoother on one surface than the other - I assume the smoother side would run a tiny bit quieter but give less traction & transfer less torque from the motor to the platt .......

In my mind, the biggest flaw is the lack of anti-skating. The skating force doesn't just put more stylus force on the inner groove wall, it actually forces the cantilever out of its neutral horizonta .......

I don't recommend it, and you probably already know this, but if you take off the belt from the starter motor to the drive motor, and give the platter a small nudge in reverse, you can run the old XA .......

Ah, much better. Units matter (V vs mV). P=(V^2)/R is why I was so alarmed when you said your were measuring 20V DC offset. I think your amp is rated at 50 watts/channel. 20V means (20^2)/8 = 50 watts .......

It depends on the bearing shaft liner and what additives are in the oil. For example, one early version of the LP12 liner will swell if you use Linn's black oil, and the bearing will seize. Lots more .......

Honestly, I was surprised when I looked at the schematic - I expected the monitor amp to be controlled by the main volume control, too. This is probably one of the changes made between the C32 and C33 .......

Just a guess - could the relay be sticking? Check the voltages on it and see if it should be closing. If it's simply stuck, isopropyl alcohol on a thin strip of paper (drawn between the contacts) can .......

Those sound plausible to me. They are measuring different circuits different ways. Output power is typically rated 20-20k, and the fact that this is RMS at .05% THD says they didn't skimp on the powe .......

One other thing to consider - I believe Harry's review was based on early Advents, the ones that had the protective tweeter grilles attached to the front grill cover, and not to the drivers themselves .......
