Further update - after putting a scope on the amp while I was listening to get an idea of where clipping started, I found some pretty big high frequency spikes on the output. More digging around with .......

I just use 10 or 12 ga. solid wire from the hardware store and strip the insulation off of it. It's soft enough to be workable to crimp the ends into lugs but stiff enough that it won't go anywhere on .......

Thought I'd post an update. I've got the amp up and running and it sounds pretty good. I didn't swap the filaments to DC since cleaning up the power supply and grounds cut the hum to a very reasonable .......

Thanks for all the help on this. I think I'll try DC for the filaments. Would it be worthwhile for me to post a project log thread? (Would anyone be interested?) I'd be happy to post the project detai .......

"Each EL34 draws (sic) 1.5 A. of heater current. The winding you rectify will have to be rated at 12 A." - not sure I follow the math on this... (1.5A x 4 tubes = 6A) What am I missing? Clearly, I wou .......

I'm going to re-do my Eico HF-87 for about the fifth time and was wondering - should I consider going to regulated DC for the output tube filaments? I've dug thought a bunch of forums and searched the .......

Thanks guys. Both Newark and Mouser have a big selection and a pretty good search interface. Newark seemed to be a bit cheaper, and since I need fifty-some caps (three preamps) and some other PS parts .......

I want to refresh the power supply caps on my ADC B100 preamp and need a bunch of high voltage (250v) axial lead electrolytics at a reasonable price. All the hi-V caps seem to be available in radial l .......
