Whew! Thank God I am not the only one who covers their gear! Even if you like looking at it you can cover it when you are not around to keep dust or pets away ... Hard to imagine people spending multi .......

thanks for the info ... I am sure they do excellent work but their pricing policy is unusual: flat $825 fee upfront and will repair or update the piece up to that price ... if the estimate is MORE the .......

depends on the DAC quality and personal preference ... PLUS unless you also plan to run the Sony direct to a preamp as well as using digital out to DAC, you will not be able to play SACD .......

If there IS a problem inherent with the laser assembly causing the SC to require frequent replacement, I would be more cautious about buying. Linn of course should share some blame for including a fau .......

there are some vintage Yamaha receivers and integrateds that are highly respected that I believe have all the features you are looking for. many also have a variable loudness control which is MUCH mor .......

I like top loaders as well. Someone else had also recommended Stello to me in an email and I have read a few reviews, all of which have been favorable. One thing I have found curious is there is no me .......

that's what I mean ... maybe some of the older transports were more robust in build than the newer units. MANY stories of expensive, current transports and players needing new lasers or even transport .......

Yes BUT the sound quality is not the same as when the disc is copied to the hard drive and then played. I still THINK I prefer the sound of the CD played direct vs the HD copy thru iTunes. May be more .......

there may be a tube substitution in the preamp stage to reduce the gain ... may also be a way to reduce the output from the source ... easiset way is the Rothwell attenuators or a set of attenuated IC .......

actually I have not updated my system here in a long time. the custom passive is out of the loop .. source runs direct to the SET integrated. the source is CD and has the "standard" 2v output so I BEL .......

My biggest problem is finding a preamp that will have a usable volume range with my SET amp and HE speakers. Most are way LOUD at 8p on the dial. Passives seem to be the best/only option in this set-u .......

I have a Rega Vulcan sub in my HT system ... it is run off the dedicated sub out of the Yamaha YSP-1 ... line level, requires a powered subwoofer. Having the YSP-1 allows me to keep my HT gear separte .......

The 1sc is a GREAT small room speaker but large scale dynamics and impact require a BIG speaker. My favorite amp with the 1sc that owned was a Cary 300sei .... absolutely BEAUTIFUL sounds from only 12 .......

I have only directly compared it in my system to passive linestages by Ref Line, FT Audio, Belles, and a custom TVC ... the RSA Stealth has the best bass and most "liquid" mids of the group though not .......

best tubes I have heard on Dunlavy's were the BAT VK75's with a BAT pre (don't remember the model) ... as far as cables, DAL had relatively inexpensive copper cables specifically tailored to their spe .......

My Sony SCD777ES if left on all the time will refuse to read the disc in the tray. Turn it off after each use and I have never had a problem .... weird! .......
