Thanks for this suggestion. I was going to be borrowing a pre-amp tomorrow... The Ah! has an internal volume control, so hooking up directly to the amps was simple (don't know why I didn't think of do .......

I'll check, but if I remember correctly, the AES pre-amp has no coupling capacitors. .......

Bi-wired and I checked the wiring. Both tweeter and woofer panels are firing. Just way attenuated bass. I'm starting to wonder also if some of the caps in the crossover might have blown. But it's in b .......

Went to turn on the system yesterday and fired up a CD. Treble is fine but bass is highly attenuated. As if there were tone controls and the bass was all the way down. The system is an Ah! Njoe Tjoeb .......

If you have a My Yahoo! Or Flickr account, you can use Picnik, which is a free on-line editing program. You can do all basic editing. I use it for quick fix stuff when I don't need Lightroom or Photos .......

To clarify, the arm is a Project 9 (non-carbon) and the cartridge is a Benz Glider L2 (not the "S") version. Using the Hi-Fi News test disk, I'm able to track the +14db (anti-skate at "2")at 2.1g VTF .......

Thanks for responding, I just got around to measuring. I get 85-95db at 12 o'clock on my CD player, but only 80db at 1 o'clock for the TT and starting to distort. Not nearly loud enough. ___ Jeff TOJ .......

Have you tried any of the cheap solutions like the cork or foam dot mats? Just curious. I have and mmf-7 and have been using a foam mat with foam dots. Better than sorbathane, stock felt mat or no mat .......

I have an AE3-DJH and have some extra Herbies tube dampers. So I tried them (two dampers on the one EZ81), and the sound immediately became punchier in the bottom end, with an additional 1/2 octave or .......

Checked the tracking force. It's at 1.8g. This was the optimal setting with the anti-skate set at 1g with the HFN test record. The only other setup that worked with the HFN was 1.4g and no anti-skate. .......

You may be correct; I had thought that the arms were the same. The arm on the 7 is a Pro-ject 9a. I see from the pics on the music hall site that the arm on the 5 doesn't look the same. Sorry for misl .......

I had one on an MMF-7 which has the same Pro-Ject arm. You will need the heavy counter balance due to the weight of the cartridge. Also, without getting into the numbers, mine sounded much better with .......

Cut a small piece (mine is about 1" square), and shorter than the height of your platter level (shorter so in case you bump it, you don't accidentally wipe out your cantilever). Tape a coin to the bot .......

I have about 20 hours on it. My initial impressions were basically the same, except that I did feel that it was bright. This in comparison to a DL-103R and Goldring Eroica H. This brightness dissipate .......

FR, My comments weren't assuming the photos were digital. There's a lot that can go on in the darkroom. If you went through those efforts, or if they were straight out of the camera, no real differenc .......

You can usually sample a small lot for a reasonable price. That way you can compare, narrow your taste down, and pick out a bottle or two or three of something you know you'll like. Better than blindl .......

ND, Power is on about 6 hours/day, so ~2000 hours on the tubes before they started to go. Based on your comment above, it's possible they just reached aged out. I'm sure lifespan depends on circuit de .......

With (hopefully) properly adjusted VTA, sounds better than no mat. Cleaner and tigheter bass and mids. Not too different in the highs. Much quieter background though, that's what makes the most impres .......

When I think mellotron, I usually think like the Strawberry Fields reference, obviously it does more than that. Don't know then if the distortion is in the recording itself or the nature of the vinyl, .......

Have tried Cardas Quadlink 5C ($135 for 1m pair), MIT T2, and Speltz Anti-Cable. They all sound good, but the Anti-Cable is still in there. Same amp and pre, but an Ah! Njoe Tjoeb 4000. Jeff TOJ ::: T .......

... and thanks for the info. The Amperex 7308 are the best I've heard in my Tjoeb, but though warm in the mids, the highs are a little to clinical. I overall like the sound of my TT much better. Looks .......

If you havne't yet, check that the end of the counterweight isn't hitting the inside of the dust cover. Especially with the 103 being heavy, the counterweight is probably farther out than your previou .......

My EH 6SN7's respond so well to tube dampers, you can actually here the difference of putting on the damper standing right over the tube. I think it's a great sounding tube. My limited experience with .......

I have a couple of the Element Cables (TP II). I bought them because they were cheap, but have never had great sucess with them. Not very dynamic, and sound a little 'digital'. That's in my system tho .......

The GT12AX7Ms respond VERY VERY well to tube damping, moreso than any other tube I've tried to damp. I'm sure one reason is that it's in a phono stage, but the difference with them on is significantly .......

Curious, I have two editions of this album, one tan with a red EMI logo, and the other is dark green. The green one is a much better copy; in fact, I use it as a demo disk. Definitely my favorite Kaya .......
