I don't have the Monitor Golds, but on my Tannoy Westminster Royal SEs I find that amps between 9 watts (300B) and 40 watts (Leben CS660P) have worked well. My favorites so far have been the deHavilla .......

At the moment I'm driving them with a Leben CS660P amp which is a KT66 PP amp that puts out about 40 watts. The Westminsters don't really need that much power, but the Leben sounds really great on the .......

Mine's the same way, it's nothing to worry about. I think that the sockets don't grip the tube pins as tight as some, but it doesn't hurt anything in my experience. Hot tip for this amp: find some NOS .......

I used to own the the SP1/2 and I found it to be a good but not great speaker. I like the SP100 better in the Spendor lineup. But I've found that I like the Harbeths much better than I do the Spendors .......

I doubt that its a power issue with your amp, a 300B amp should easily drive the De Capos to the levels you desire. What amp are you using? It's possible there's an issue with the amp or preamp. Swap .......

The 805 amps should work fine with them. I used my 805C amps with ProAc 2.5 & 3.8s to fine effect. Lesser powered SETs will not work though, and just to be safe follow the advise of the other posters .......

We have cheap and abundant power here in eastern Washington State due to nuclear power. Not that it really matters as I use a 2A3 SET amp that draws little power. Cost more to have a mocha at Starbuck .......

Well, I've owned the Cary 805C, Custom Wavelength 45, Fi 2A3, and tried/listened to the Audio Note 300B Conquest, Art Audio Diavolo & PX -25 and a few others. I'm surprised you find the 805 fatigueing .......

While not a soundcard for your computer, the Alesis Masterlink would be my first choice for what you are doing. You can record your 78s to its internal hard disk and make archival CDs at the same time .......

OTA cables work beautifully with SETs and rival the very most expensive in that context ... for a lot less. But there is an if ... and that is the lack of RFI, otherwise they can be too noisy. ::: TOP .......

A good friend of mine uses a Herron pre with his PX-25 and his Cain & Cain speakers and it sounds superb. Haven't tried the combo on my Avantgarde Duos but I suspect it would be very nice. I'd suspect .......

I used Cary 805C amps (845 tube) to drive the ProAc 2.5 & 3.8 speakers I had to excellent effect. I would think it would work well on your Amatis. Also, the Art Audio Jota drove Harbeths with ease the .......

Don't know for sure, but it looks the same as the heavy duty kit that a friend got for his Spacedeck a while back, which at the time I thought made a subtle but noticeble improvement in the sound. See .......

You've got the start of a really first rate system. If I were you I would keep the VSM's and find a sympathetic amp, as you are unlikely to find speakers that better what the VSM's do well at a reason .......

I like my Duos, but they can be very fussy to set up to their best effect, room dominating when they are, and it's pretty rare to hear a properly set up pair in my experience. Duos are very adjustable .......

I used to have Cary 805C amps and they were dead quiet with the Duos too. I have to admit though, my Wavelength Custom 45s totally blew away my Carys ... but the Carys looked way cool with that big 84 .......

I would avoid the AER drivers if I were you, they are fragile and the people I know who have used them have had problems. Of the two people using AERs I know, both have had problems. They are fragile .......
