I use an ATI amp successfully with SACD/CD. I have the AT6012 which has zone volume controls built in, so I don't use a pre-amp. However, if you've got passive speakers you'll probably need something .......

Don't compromise, particularly on speakers because of multi-channel. I have very good fronts (two only) and okay rears, and I only listen to the MC track of MC SACD's, and haven't bought many stereo .......

Yes, I like this disc too. But then Shostakovich's 8th quartet is one of my favorites, so I'm biased. I think the BIS Prieres sans Paroles disc has a better multi-channel mix, and is generally better .......

If it were a competition (and it's not), for me the Kovacevich wins on excitement, the Gilels on depth of reading. The sound of the Kovacevich is a lot better, the RQR being the real clincher. Both or .......

If you're into tunes - Mozart, Mendelssohn, Verdi... (redbook samplers suggested). If you're into jazz - try something a bit more modern yet accessible. Some of the more folk-inspired classical pieces .......

I think the figure quoted was probably due to some careless journalism. Most of the costs of SACD don't reside in the pressing, it's the production. How do Hyperion offer 2 SACD's for $25? How do reta .......

Yes, but new cycles do seem to keep happening (Barshai Shostakovich to name a recent one), and maybe the enhanced benefits of hi-rez may act as a differentiator that the record companies will capitali .......

Following up on a thread from a few days ago... My fronts are just about flat to 3Hz (that's THREE), though my amps would get dangerously close to clipping with much volume on material with much conte .......

I've been looking around for a cheapish DVD player and have been looking at customer reviews on various retailer sites. I have been surprised just how many Joe's have stumbled across SACD through HTIB .......

Some engineers seem to like to use the entire available stereo soundstage whatever the size of the ensemble. This tends to mean that you are no longer sitting in audience when listening to a recording .......

I have to say that I haven't noticed this on my machine. I don't have any of the discs jlingo has, and most of what I listen to is CD or multi-channel SACD. I'll let you know if I do come across it. M .......

Not sure I understand this. You can have low frequencies on any track and in any suitably designed speaker. My front's are more or less flat to about 3Hz. This does need 4 12" units only operating up .......

I bought mine from a local dealer. I wasn't going to part with $1800 without listening to the machine first, and doing AB's. They had to get one in (SCD-XA333ES), but had actually had a couple of othe .......

Phil What software problems have you had specifically? I have the occasional failed TOC read, a CD read as a single layer multi-channel, and problems with it going AWOL between tracks on a programmed .......
