Got mine in 2000 and it has worked flawlessly ever since. One time I had an intermittent display issue and got it fixed, resoldered the pins and no problems of any kind since. It still sounds fantasti .......

I decided to spend some time trying to see what is the issue with the SCD-1 and found the skipping noise only occurs when playing CDs. It has no issues playing SACDs at all. This obviously leads me to .......

Can't comment on any mods as my SCD-1 is stock, but I do prefer single ended versus balanced. I tried both ways with the same version of cable and have stuck with single ended since 2000. .......

I also use the 8 ohm tap on my VT 200. As for the potentiometer I have it set one position from all the way to +, 5 tap model. Had mine since 1994 and have had zero issues with them and they will play .......

I find it to be very true to whatever type of music I am playing, no matter what type. To me it has the midrange of the Koetsu, but balanced with an extremely neutral high end and tight and quick bass .......

I would think that the Levinsons would be fine. I have had no exposure to the Claytons. My Extremas are driven by an ARC VT 200 and sound superb. They do like lots of power. .......

I had a MkII with the ET arm and upgraded to the MkIV and found the difference worth the cost. Of course this was a long time ago and a lot less money. The tall dust cover works well with the ET arm, .......

I agree with Frank that a home demo is a must. The Extremas are a very difficult load. I use a ARC VT200 with mine and quite frankly have had absolutely no desire to "upgrade" either. .......

My unit was purchased in Oct. 2000 and I have never had an issue with it, knock on wood. I cannot definitively say it is due to my turning on the unit only when listening, but I believe it is a factor .......

I use my SCD-1 naked, but to help troubleshoot reverse the output interconnects to see if the cracking sound transfers to the other channel. If so you can pretty much "assume" the issue is with the So .......

I also use a ARC Ref 2 preamp and find the unbalanced to be much better. The only comparison I did involved Nordost Quatro Fil balanced and single ended and Nordost Valhalla balanced versus HMS Grande .......

On my system SACD has consistently been bettered via vinyl. I am an early adopter of SACD, have well over 350 titles and growing, but vinyl still sounds MUCH better than SACD. In fact more so than SAC .......
