I run USA 6l6gc/5881 in Ampex mono's design for el-34 & B+ is well over 500v & in UL. I think I'm running close to 45-50Ma & have been running them for some years now.G/GB & wannabe GC..no way..red pl .......

Mike Soldano uses Bud P. O'Netics outputs in his legendary SLO guitar amps & these things are no-joke. I feel best amp in the world easy for R&R. His hi-fi trannies also due the deed especially level .......

I have 75 of these w/ a few amp projects coming up. Is it o.k. to string these up for rectification.? or should I save them for smaller voltages. They are collecting dust. If so would it be 2-strings .......

I run on my main system a series battery scheme on the input tube of amp without a input cap & have -2.8v directly ran into grid of 1st tube.If I had small DC offset from source my bias would change s .......

Actually running more @ 4.4-4.5mA I have not yet measured v @ plate on 5687 as it is tucked way in there. probably about 220-230v on plate. everything else is accurate. I see 4.2mA is on the sheeet fo .......

2c22 is 100v @ 5.5mA & running series battery Duracell's direct into grid on this input section.Simple RC coupling to the 5687. The 5687 is @ 250v @ 20mA & is IT coupled to 807 w/ grid leak battery .......

I put amp back in SE mode & works as usual to a very high level of goodness. PSE is much harder & pain in the A.. more then I ever thought. Enough PSE for this weekend, another time maybe. Joe That is .......

Built this way so I can experiment more easy. Definately cuts down on total weight per piece. I have other pics. I put it back SE mode & it works just fine as usual. I give up for now on the PSE gi .......

I have used this amp in SE for a while now. The IT's are O'Netics of high % nickel & iron. The OT's are Hashimoto . I can see varing R8 for a single 807,but need individual full control of all 4-807 i .......

I only have left to install the 4- 20k trimmers for individual 807 grid bias control on this amp & do not know how to properly implement this. I am using a variable regulated bias supply. Just this .......

keep the cables you have & use the 200. as a down payment on some custom outputs. have Bud P.of O.Netics or MQ,Slage, etc do it. . I would guess that 500+. would get you a real improvement. ::: TOPIC: .......

hello, I have those exact amps & they are running daily for me. I can send you the tube rectifier version schemetics which is same in signal area. I do not have the SS version. Mine are biased for 6l6 .......

So at the tail of the LCLC section I just ditch R1 & sub for constant current I1 & put in lets say 4mA as My charts say 1.6mA @ g2 screens for one tube in class A at my voltages. I am sure I am making .......

I have the 300B PP Canary from about 7 years ago, blue face version. I ran EH 300B hard the entire time & one just went south the other day. I would try differant 6sn7's & even 12ax7 if you have them. .......

I think I will just scrap the 600/600 input tranny's as I don't know what I was thinking, dought my source is anywhere near 100ohms. Had them in closet & had a fixed bias thought on the 5687, I'll jus .......

In the cathode position I have not had a NiMH read bad yet & even after 2-3 years.I allways after listening on kitchen table when building choose the NiMH for drivers it seems over R/C on cathode. Als .......

I am useing "real' Switchcraft XLR's for my umbilical duty on my newest amp build. I would not recommend doing this but I have them & they work + safer then my clip lead & exposed HT amp projects that .......

I am going to try 500v @ 50 mA w/ -14.5v on g1 & 200v regulated on g2 for the 801's in tetrode mode & parrallel with adjusting them individualy thru 20k-20 turn trimmers. Seems 5687 has a max plate vo .......

Kurt, Can you explain this..? I run NiMH on the cathode of most my amps drivers & 1st stages in general. I have even used them in the grid of outputs,namely cordless construction tool batteries. Ya go .......

I use 1 3/8" on the chinese versions of these thru hard wood top chassis for years. I would however get the sockets 1st with these. If going with a thick top plate on your chassis remember that old tu .......

After you try a SET with your Thiels, you could pick up a pair of JBL SR4725 2-ways or SR4735 3-ways on the used pro market. I paid $600.00 for mine & see them go for 550-800 all day. They have superb .......

I would try all 3 for sure. I actually like UL & run it often.Mostly in 6l6GC in mono's desighned originaly for el-34 in UL. EF86/12au7/6l6gc. All 3 sound so differant it would be worth your while to .......

My 1959 Ampex mono's converted to 6l6gc from el-34 w/ a Rotel RT-925 tuner into JBL L65's is all I would ever need. It sounds better than any DAC, CDP, etc I have or even my computer. My Vinyl is for .......

I do not think at all that the James is chinese anything..the bass doesn't go deep as some , but then again, it it usualy some other problem. Most of the time. I also use Transcendar in a PP300B amp, .......

I re-built & re-biased my Amex el-34 mono's for 6l6gc. 480v on plate @ 48mA in UL. Also 8ohm speakers on 16ohm taps. Thing is I have a 300B PP amp sitting directly next to these 5-20 based Ampex mono' .......

I threw together my 1st phono pre, the JEL 6sl7 version. Checked all voltages etc,,,& hooked it up to my Ampex mono's. These mono's have a 500k input pot. So I supected that would not be a problem sin .......

I wonder if it is the older horn & maybe the driver. The 2426H with proper XO @ 1.1k just flat is wonderfull, even on top. I suspect the horn itself is limiting the final result if that kind of extens .......

My ears say fixed bias sounds better easily in most circuits I have tried, actualy all of them. Bonus is surely the ease in current measurements via 10ohm resistors to ground off cathode. The ablilty .......

When I had the CFB hooked up by just tapping off the unused 4 or 16ohm in series to a 10ohm small wattage resistor at cathode. I have dissconnected the CFB for now. I don't understand the using of the .......

When I hookup the UL connections @ 5k for a 26/6sn7/5881 in SE UL, I get a crackling noise thru speakers when I rotate volume controle with or without music playing. The DAC is Cap output for testing .......

PEC is a good & reliable. I am not sure who carries them now, but somebody does. They are built like tank & sound good. Mil spec & not to expensive. I do like certain ALPS though. Eli might know where .......

I use them in my 45 & such. My favorite is the early etched RCA's with the American Pit Bull Terrier etched in base. Why..? because I have 5 of these dogs in real life..so the tube makes me smile with .......

Canary ca-301 used..There new version of this only has a facia change & exteranl bias adjustments & is 5800.00, but the ca-301 can be had for around 1200.00 w/ tubes. 80 lb's of reliable good, good so .......

Since you have the tube allready, you could build a proven simple DIY tube amp or restore a vintage one, but you have to be dissaplined with vinatage gear, too easy to say what the heck & fire it up w .......

Take & pre-tin each wire, pre-bend a small loop in each wire. The take Blue-Tack & pin the wire tight after hooking it to solder tab on Alps. Make sure you turn volume control all the way up. As far i .......

Klipsch KG-4 would do nicely, very underrated speaker & could be had in mint shape for that 400.00. Also do not laugh but Cerwin Vega VS-150's wouldcould be had for that & do very well indeed. I think .......

I aquired a DIY mono amp with what appears to be a Fisher 200 OT on it. This OT is the largest OT I have ever seen. Take 2 & 1/2 pairs of james or Hashimoto OT's & that would be 1 of these. Way huge.. .......

I build amps & such w/ terminal strips on the rear exterior of the screw terminal with dividers, same as most high end pro gear of long ago. The I just bring my leads out below these heavy duty strips .......

What is your bias method on the 27. I usually use batteries on cathode, but ran short, all on the 6v6/6l6g gig. but am using 2.2k/33uf on cathode now, but way short on plate voltage with that damn 22k .......

I threw a 27/6v6 together w/ 6v6 strapped in SE & what a wonderfull tube in triode, never tried it. Amp is dead quiet as DC everywhere, even on 6v6 heaters, but the kicker is the sonics. Reminds me of .......

I just fired up 26/26 @ 10k-8 battery bias on all. I had to load 1st 26 a 22k resistor, wish I had some iron for that purpose,, also had to use a .22uf K-40. Volume jumped way up from before, perfect .......

I drove 40v2's for years with Canary 300B PP, the Ca301 can be had for excellent price used. 22w of 300B & superb combo with 40-60's. I still have the Canary.... They use Transcendar outputs. ::: TOPI .......

If I were you..I would just build the JEL 45. It will sound excellent & just use a big chassis so the PTP wiring goes easy for ya & possible to run ASC oilers or at least Solen in PS.. I built mine w/ .......

I think I have your 27 op-point's written down from the archives from notes you had on this very amp, I think I will try it in a SE desighn for sake of much easier on me. I have lots of 27 & 26 in st .......

Thanks for heads up that it can at least be done. I have over 50 of 26 & 27 to play with & like both in preamp duty, hence the reason behind wanting to use them for a amp. I supose I will never know t .......

Is there any idea's on what I could try for a 2 stage amp using 26 or 27 as driver.High wattage is non issue. On my learning journey & not much if anything printed on a 2 stage using these tube type's .......

The schematic has only a couple changes from how I use it. The OA3's are showed w/ pins backwards in schematic, this was a typo, 5 is 2 & 2 is 5, they are just have to be reversed from what is shown, .......

Nothing wrong w/ PP 300B, good for up to 22w or so. I run one in a 3rd system, if that is straight amp & pre is needed or wanted, ditch the Cary with that 300B PP & build or have someone build a 26 DH .......

I took a pair & installed Auricap & Mills & went much further than that even. Conclusion is the XO up grade is worth it for very small % of improvemnet. I really feels the v2 40 & 60's get a Harsh ra .......

I also built Joseph's 45. Itr is my favorite amp of all & have never felt a need to update it or build another 2a3/45. I also used James 6123's, brother to your James OT's. Which I find wonderfull sou .......

Capacitance meter. You can also do the same as your doing line level also, I used I think a .01uf for 150hz, but would have check that # to be sure, also this was for a 100k input tube amp. A ASC oile .......

I after being speaker down do to JBL re-cone waiting, etc..Had to borrow a family members Kenwood KL-7070's, fired em up with a 300B PP & then a 45 SET, w/ the 45 they are far from bad sounding. A sea .......

For smaller rooms & lower volume listening this OB setup you have would be hard to beat for the $. This I know..Good job. Get rid of the lytic cap, measure it & use a solen or Janzen, etc......motorru .......

I did recently on speaker building bigtime.. sold every damn driver I had & commercial speaker. Then sat there looking at nothing & all this gear, then sold a shit load of maore gear,but kept all my t .......

Canary products are just very nice . Extremely well built. I ran a ca-301 for years without a single glitch & easy on tubes. .......

With those speakers PP should be looked at IMO. If 500.00 is in the game I would look for a Scott 299B or similar allready gone thru & ready for el-84, I can tell ya for sure they are are hard to beat .......

I have had 3 pairs of those exact lil coral's they are superb drivers.If that unit is in nice shape I would not canable it, they have a following when decent shape. I also still own 2 -pairs of those .......
