They certainly are the solution to the problems they solve. ;) I just mean that it's about the goals in the end. You want high-sensitivity? Horn-loading will give you that, but you sacrifice bandwidth .......

The EC-175 exit angle might not be as wide as I thought afterall. Though I cannot access the flare without removing either phase plug or the mesh, my estimated max/min values for the various dimension .......

If I'd have to guess from looking into the exit with a flashlight, I'd say the EC is something between 30° and 40° perhaps? While I have never seen an EA, perhaps it's the same as the EC; at least tha .......

Pretty much looks conical to me. The angle would be easy enough to measure with either mesh or phaseplug removed, neither of which I want to attempt. :) IG .......

The Celestion TF1020 is a good midbass/midrange driver. 10", 96dB and does not need huge enclosure volume to work 100Hz-1600Hz. It's fairly flat up to a few kilohertz, but starts to beam along the way .......

I was really in it for the Emilar drivers, the horns being a bonus. They may sit on a shelf after I toy with them a few minutes and switch to other horns/WG's. I imagine the various lens must indeed b .......

It's easy enough to try in general, if nothing else. I think the drivers might be closer to 90° out of phase, in which case a simple inversion won't flatten the area, but possibly swap the valley for .......

These types of horn have usually not been favored by Karlson users. K-Tubes or Smith horns will mesh better IMO. It might matter less if you cross-over really high though. IG .......

I measured output down to 800Hz for my BMS 4550 mounted on a 1" K-Tube. I suppose it could work on a large WG that loads it all the way down there, but distortion may start to rise anyways. You probab .......

Radian 475PB should be a damn fine driver on the QSC horn. I almost went with it, but decided on the BMS 4550. If you decide to go with one woofer only, the Acoustic Elegance TD12M is probably excelle .......

Thanks! The one with TD15M is just raw BB-ply finished with wipe-on poly and my new one also raw BB-ply with water-based varnish. I like dark drivers on light wood. The other one is MDF with an oak-pl .......

PSD2002, I hear it's quite a good driver and would like to sample some one day. IIRC, it did very well in a very exhaustive test by Art Welter. I'm too chicken and sucky at paint jobs to go for bold c .......

Any of the old or newer Peavey "22" drivers should be good to go a bit lower. Maybe they'll be a bit soft on very top though? A true 2" exit driver/tube combo should be good. Too bad no info is out th .......

Here is a K-Tube I made from a brass pipe. It had a nasty sustained ring when I would tap it, but a rubber O-ring of slightly undersized diameter slipped halfway on would mostly kill that. Freddy now .......

The good old Transylvania thick aluminum casting is very solid and neutral. A modern version made of polymer or composite material would be just as good IMO. A one-piece bakelite unit would win for ko .......

I believe JBL did it a lot on their TOTL consumer and studio stuff. I'm actively bi-amping a TD15M and BMS4550 on QSC waveguide right now. The compression driver has ~90µF worth of Solen caps to prote .......

Do try the K-Tubes, they work well. Tilt them down a bit with the slot facing up, so that you're aiming them below ear level, adjust depending on the driver's tone. IG .......

The K-Tube is free of any resonance. If you look at the input impedance of a compression driver mounted on a 1" diameter, 5.3" long slotted tube, you only see the driver's own two peaks. These are the .......

The CG10T wants relatively large boxes, at least to perform well and not to have an under-damped response. Its treble is good, but there's not much above 10kHz. It'll do some nice bass due to mid Qts .......

Nice work! Of course you can not expect too much bass from these as the back chamber is of rather small size. A strong motor driver will do well in the vocal range and probably OK down to ~100Hz. IG : .......

A Karlson K15 topped with "The Tube" could do a great job of making mono sound big. Buying a single GPA 416-8C could be very good along with a decent compression driver. "The Tube" can be DIY'ed easy. .......

The K15 can be built with only a skilsaw and router, just make sure you have good and consistent measuring/cutting practices. :) It's no harder to build than many BLH or folded pipes that are en vogue .......

12TRX with the strong motor should do well in the 12" Karlson. Might also work in the 15", which is less troublesome overall. 15TRX was one of the recommended drivers for K15 and Karlsons were really .......

I can not really comment on the curved reflector feature of my SK8 by itself, but it probably does not do anything bad; IMO the SK8 is well-behaved with FF225WK, perhaps more than my K12. IG ::: TOPIC .......

Would you say this SF driver is about as good a bargain as one can get when it comes to "hi-fi" woofers for an 8" Karlson? There are of course better options, but these are costlier. A few pro drivers .......

If I plug FE208Sigma in my BP6 kludge, it seems to want a pretty small box and even SK8 seems a bit too peaky on both ends of the gain bandwidth. Factory K8 size is smoother, but there won't be much b .......

Being made of ¾" oak for it's relatively small size, ~15" wide, it is pretty solid and well-damped. Sounds quite natural too with great subjective coverage. Quick off-axis measurements for the vertica .......

We generally hold as a rule of thumb that the lower the Qts, the better in a Karlson. I guess there is some limit to this relative to driver size and nominal koupler size. SK8 is in fact roughly a K10 .......

My pair of CG10T was in a DIY copy of the 1954 K12, known as Karlsonette. It worked fairly well, but I suspect the original and larger K15 would be better for these mid-Q drivers. It might get soomewh .......

CG10T also sounds relatively sensitive to my ears. As noted in my T/S parameter set, the 1W/1m SPL is WinISD's extrapolation, which can be screwy at times. I've seen the CG10T spec'd to 97dB and 98dB .......

I don't have impedance correlated to a certain FR unfortunately. FR seems to be the flattest when on the tube's longitudinal axis, but dispersion is subjectively better, say 30° down relative to the s .......

Most pro speaker mfg's have some nice coax drivers with strong motors available, some of these might be quite nice in a Karlson. I was and am still tempted by some Radian offerings. I'm sure Beyma mus .......

A compression driver would be too bright by itself, but with an L-pad you could adjust it to taste. The Vifa tweeter should work IMO. Without an oblate spheroid throat on the waveguide, I guess a dome .......

1" thick for the back of a K8 should offer plenty of stiffness by itself. Wood dowels or threaded rod can brace the wings nicely enough. A DIY K-tube might be the best solution to help out on top IMO. .......

My horn has been produced by stacking 5 layers of BB-plywood, as has been done numerous times. Many DIY'ers do the horn on a lathe, which I do not posses and found it useless to shape the outside of m .......

I started out by making a purely 90° conical horn. The choice was mostly motivated by the simple manufacturing technique I had in mind, which was to drill 1", 2", 3" and 4" holes in 4 layers of ½-inch .......

Drivers within a certain range of specs will tend to produce very similar, even identical curves in Karlsons. AFA dealing with the "W", it's not that audible IMO with the right, strong, drivers. I don .......

Cool K8's! Try elevating them to tailor bass response. I built the 20" tall SK8 and am pleased with them loaded w/ FF225WK. Bass is not strong, but can be satisfying and even surprising at times, on g .......

The Transylvania Power Company unit does not seem to restrict top-end HF much, if at all. The HF cutoff is determined by the tube's diameter AFAIK, so the effect might be more apparent if there is any .......

For 5khz and up duty, I'd lose the long unslotted section and try a smaller diameter tube, say 0.5", about 2.5" long with ~2" K-slot for commparison. IG .......

Car audio speakers are often 4ohm, so make sure you have an amp rated for that. Other than that, they might have a mid/high Qts and should do OK in sealed or TL enclosures. IG .......
