Chris I think that sand is a “deader” medium as it consists of thousands of loose granules that can individually resonate without exciting the whole of the sand mass. Sand is very bad at transmitting .......

I would try a mixture of both. Say about 25% - 33% lead shot and the rest sand. Mix the two together so that you have an even mix. Good luck, Hornphile .......
