So I'm looking for a small subwoofer for my system. I feel i need a bit of low end boost. I tried a 12 inch Klipsch sub and it made a big difference but was too much, barely had the volume on the sub .......

The CDP in my second system failed and i didn't want to spend bucks. Had a used Tascam CD-RW900MKII i bought for $150.00. Paired with a nice DAC ( MHDT Stockholm 2) it sounds very very good. ::: TOPIC .......

I bi-wire my Ref 3A de Capos ( no crossover, single capacitor used as a high pass filter for the tweeter) use Kimber 8PR in a 5/3 configuration .......

I'm using a Tascam CD-RW900mkii as a CDP when my cheap Oppo died. Cheaper than buying a new CDP and sounds pretty good. .......

I setup in the last year streaming with an old MacBook Pro Ethernet into the MAc USB out to a Schitt Eitr and there into a MHDT DAC We stream mostly radio stations (WWOZ, Blues Flac, local stations) b .......

I stream and listen to CD's Bought an Emotive ERC-4 because it had digital inputs to use the built in DAC. SQ was very good, the Emotiva is built like a tank. Got the upgrade bug, bought a used MHDT .......

Take a look at used Ref 3A de Capo i Detailed plenty of volume with 10 wpc i use a 4 watt amp and plenty of power in Piano Black .......

I stream radio stations all the time from my local NPR to WWOZ and have not noticed a decrease in SQ from a CD. Listen to a great hi res blues station RadioBluesFlac .......

I have a 4 watt Decware Mini Torii i use with a Ref 3A de Capo speakers. at 92db the de Capos can get pretty loud in a 12x20 room with opening on the long sides .......

The digital out on the Sonos should bypass the built-in dac so connect that to the digital in on the new DAC then the DAC to any analogue input on the Billie .......

Very interesting thread. I have two low power amps and decent speakers 1. Decware mini torii with Ref 3A de Capos (92db) plenty loud in a 20 x 12 room with open sides not concert loud but rich and ful .......

Go for a separate phono stage. gives you more options and configurations. For MM i tried 5 different tube stages before picking the Hagerman Cornet IIused for $450. .......

for around $600 used you can find a MHDT DAC, great sounding tube DAC hard to find and they go fast havana, stockholm models are in your range .......

I use Ref 3A de capos with a 4 watt Decware amp. I use a MHDT Stockholm DAC and love the sound. For hi res the MHDT Pagoda may be a good choice .......

Ref 3A does not recommend toe-in with the de Capos. I keep them straight ahead. Nice soundstage l-r and front to back .......

The Oppo was $80 and didnt want anything too nice :) at the cabin, makes a decent transport. Now to try my MHDT DAC with it! .......

I use a Oppo DV-981HD at my cabin connected to a tube amp (Grommes PHI-26) been using it for years, got a MyDAC used- (300.00 new) and hooked it up and damn the sound was much better, wide even notice .......

I can agree with LtMandella on the de Capos. I have had them for 11 years after going through 4 other speakers and these stay. Run them with a 4 watt Decware amp and they sing. very smooth and detaile .......

I bought a 45$ Chromecast Audio off ebay. has analog and digital out (toslink 1/8 plug) ran it to my DAC. use iphone or android to control to spotify, pandora or we just load up radio stations both in .......

Tube Phono > Tube Amp had a SS photo stage but went through 4 tube stages to get one that fit my tastes CDP > tube DAC > Tube Amp My CDP has a built in DAC and I went that to the amp but got a nice MH .......

I have some tinnitus in one ear and some music sounds tinny/glarey I got a MHDT Stockholm v2 dac and cds that sounded harsh are much much better, maybe its the tubes, the DAC is said to be euphonic f .......

I know this is a VR tube but not sure which Ox3-A,B,C,D it seems like a later RCA tube with the typeface it has no markings except under the RCA which is 7509, nothing on the glass I have googled T .......

The de Capos are pretty efficient speakers. I run mine with a 4 watt Decware Mini Torii and it gets loud enough in a 12x20 room. And they can make anything sound great too! .......

I bought a Emotiva ERC-4 last January and have been very happy with it. I used the built in DAC to stream radio from a MacBook. Built like a tank and very nice sound. Then I had a chance to get a MHDT .......

I just set up a MHDT Stockholm v2 DAC with my Mini Torii tube amp. Love the sound rich bass, nice high end, not fatiguing, euphonic is how some describe it. and a nice soundstage They have several mod .......

I also have Ref 3A de Capos and use them with a 4 watt Decware mini torii. They are rear ported so how close they can get to the wall may be an issue but they sound sweet .......

I've been told by owners of MHDT DACs that the USB input is not that good and many use a USB to SPDIF converter with the MHDT. Any thoughts? I have a Schiit Eitr USB to SPDIF that I'm trying to decide .......

are you using Pshop or Lightroom? always shoot RAW. only way to edit an image these days I always use .png for posting images in websites like AA, FB... .......

I just picked up an Emotiva ERC-4 cdp for 600.00 comes with a built in DAC Coax and optical inputs sounds great, full rich sound. if it had a usb/spdif input it would be even better but i use a Schit .......

I got a V15 Type VxMR in with some TT gear i bought used. Have bought the Jico stylus twice and no issues sounds pretty damn close to the original stylus. Hope to never give this cart up. .......

I suggest a nice VPI HW-19 mk III or IV. I had an early Pro-ject Expression, it was good but the HW-19 beat the crap out of it. And the HW-19 is in your price range. especially if you sell the Pro-je .......

I had a PL2 for 5 years and loved it, solid build, good sound. no issues with the adaptive bias. it is a good brand with great support out of Upscale Audio but at the price point there are better soun .......

A Klipsch Quartet would be a good choice sort of a smaller Forte about 97.5db I use them with my 2 watt grommes tube amp lots of sound with 40 watts a REf 3A de Capo could be a good choice if you want .......

A pair of Klipsch Quartets would do you well. think of them as mini Fortes 10 in woofer, mid, tweeter good sound used around 200-400 in good shape and yes tubes makes them scream i use a 1.75 wpc Grom .......

Well glass is an insulator so it shouldn't short anything out but looks like to get it all out you will need to take off the cover/bottom. I think there may be other tubes you can use not just other b .......

Thanks The Raytheon (not an ST type) is printed OB3 and glowed orange, the RCA OA3 glowed orange. Just got some GE OB3 ST type and they have a light blue/purple glow but hard to see with the flashing .......

I found a Vista Audio i84 for under 400. Its a 15 wt class a/b PP int amp. Great sound and would work very well with your speakers. They also make a some other amps that come up used for around 500.00 .......

Reference 3A De Capos would be a great match for your tube int amp. Used around 1200.00 but may not need a sub with them very good sound at low volumes, good bass and very efficient. .......

I biwire using Kimber 8PR so of 8 strands 3 go to the tweeter and 5 to the woofer. The De Capso dont have a crossover just a resister? to filter out the freqs for the tweeter i have used them biwired .......

I have the PL2 and even though i regularly adjust the volume i still get some scratchy/sound popping. I agree that working the volume knob while the unit is off should make it better. .......

I had a power tube blow 2x ( 3rd owner and JJEL34B tubes :( so Kevin suggested sending it to Mitch in LA. I had him replace the caps with Hovland Musicaps since he had it there and it opened opened up .......

The De Capo's have a 8.25in mid/bass driver. they sound great at low levels the dynamics are their at low volumes. I have used them with my Primaluna PL2 at 35wts EL34 and with a Vista Audio I84 15wt .......

A couple of the Lumix camera shoot RAW format. If you want to have the most control shoot RAW and edit in Adobe Lightroom. If you have a student in the home you can get LR3 for about $80. Easy to use .......

I can agree on a good prime lens. The Canon 50mm 1.8 is a great lens the only problem is on most DSLR it is an effective 75mm lens not a normal angle of view. A 35 f2 is the choice if you are looking .......

I own both the Bottlehead Seduction and the Hagerman Cornet II both from kits. The Seduction is less expensive and the sound is sweet and wonderful The Cornet IMHO has a bit more punch i like them bot .......

Triangle or Focal speakers used, look for a good int amp i would go for one with tubes like a jolida or i just got a Vista I84 for around $400. Take your time and build it up and replace/upgrade when .......

I liked the CV4004 better than the GL in the PL2. The GL sounded darker to me than the Mullards. If you are using KT88 the the GL may be the ballance but with EL34's it was a tad to dark one thing i .......

I believe the screws used in the VPI are sourced from China (PRC) but the rubber feet are from Taiwan (ROC). Not sure where the black acrylic comes from. .......

Just got a pair of these and put them in my Primaluna PL2. Swapped out a pair of NOS Tungsram. The GL seem to be deeper darker in sound and have a different soundstage, further back and more depth. ve .......

I went through 4 tube phono stages. The Cornet 2 was the one that had the tube sound but was still dynamic. The Wright WPP200c was good on some music but too much tube sound for rock The Bottlehead Se .......

I had the Project Tube Box SE, BH Seduction, Wright wwp200, and the Cornet 2 at the same time. My preference from the top Hagerman Cornet 2 very nice just what i wanted tube sound but not too colored .......

I will second the Cornet II. I have tried 4 tube pre's (Bottlehead Seduction, Tube Box SE, Wright WPP200c, Cornet @). The Cornet had the best of the Seduction and the Wright for my system. Not too smo .......

Take your time, start to look at used gear here and on audiogon. read the archives at both places, do searches on the equipment you are interested in here and at audiogon. you can put a decent system .......
