Also take a look at the M-audio AV40, it looks to be very similar to the DX-4 but it uses a true silk dome tweeter instead of the crappy mylar dome in the DX-4. I donno how much effect this has on sou .......

There seems to be a ton of outboard DACs made for high quality 2-channel playback from your PC. But if your looking for a regular internal soundcard your pretty much out of luck, the only choices you .......

I heard these at the local Guitar Center and they sounded better then any of the usual PC speakers, although at a much higher price. They migh be worth checking out if you can afford them. ::: TOPIC:: .......

Im not sure using 20+ year old caps is such a good idea, chances are they are fine, but do you really want to risk damage to other parts in your project just to save a few bucks? .......

To keep it simple we didnt do any resampling/upsampling so that may bhe why, I have heard that upsampling can make the sound warmer/smoother so its definitly worth a shot if you have a bright system. .......

Can anyone reccomend an upgrade for this opamp? Its a surface mount part, the problem is that its larger then the other surface mount opamps I have in my parts bun, like the ad8260. The 4558 is wider .......

There are higher voltage Schottkys around, but they are pricey. I actually got some samples of the Ixys FBS10-06SC Schottky bridge which is rated for 600v 6.6a! Parts Connexion sells them but they are .......

The Njoe 4000 probably sounds fuller because it has tubes in its output stage. I owned the NT4000 with the upsampler and all the extras and its a great sounding cd player, if the Sb3 even comes close .......

Is the uf4004 an upgrade over the 1n4004 or is there something better then both of them?? There are 4 of them that make up the recifier bridge of a pre-amp section in an int. amp. Im doing some repair .......

What is it that you dont like about the amp?? The Creek 5350se is very good. Your right though the phonostage isnt the best, why not try an external phono pre?? The Creek also does have it limitation .......

I have also ripped my entire cd collection(500 disks) to hard drive. I use EAC and Flac and have had good results. Its a bit f work but well worth it IMO. I cant even imagine listening to cds the "old .......

Im not exactly sure what you want to do. Do you simple what to connect your Accuphase Dac to your PC?? If so the Lynx might be overkill. I think most pople are using them for thier excellent analogue .......

Yes I think its the Xfi gigital output causing the less then great sound. Because when I hook it up to my Marantz cd67s digital output it sounds great. Im using Ad4652 opamps in mine. .......

I havent heard the L22 yet, but I have heard the LynxTwo in my buddies home studio. I think they probably sound pretty similar?? It sounded quite good through a pair of active Tannoy monitors. Ive bee .......

I think a NOS dac may be just what your looking for, they are the least digital sounding dacs Ive heard, and they are inexpensive and sound great. They are also very simple to build if your into DIY, .......

I would go for the Lynx. Whhile i have nothing against the Nixon dac, the Lynx seems like a better value. Your not only getting a very good sounding analogue output, but a high quality digital output .......

Yea I donno why the three opamps, but they must be there for a reason, I dont think they would go through the trouble of doing a seperate dac just for 2channel and then mess it up with a bunch of opam .......

I think it has to do with differant filters for the analog stage. But check the manual to be sure. .......

Well theres a few things to consider. First off the AA DDE3.0 and Adcom gda600 were both well regarded budget dacs in there day. I dont think the DDE3.0 will be much of an upgrade, more like a step si .......

Ive tried both in my cd63se and cd67 and prefere the 2134. But Ill also say that neither are as good as some of the top opamps like the AD8260, LM6172, opa2107, lm4652 .......

Schottky are the best if you can find them in the voltage/amp rating you need, they are harder to find in high voltage/amperage ratings. Hexfreds are next best and are more widely available in higher .......

Yes the soundcard does make a differance even if your only using the digital output. The better the card the better the clock and hopefully lower jitter. .......

Ok I fixed the problem, I just had to rename the files to .dts instead of .wav. The next problem is now that the file is .dts the cue sheets dont work. .......

Here is what I dont understand. How come no one makes a very high quality 2channel sound card but without all the recording features that the pro cards like the Lynx have?? I just want the good sound .......

im using cthe component connection with decent cables. The artifacts are mainly on the grass of the feild and its sort of blockyness, its not there when the camera is still but once the action starts .......

Benie does the tv have to be an LCD?? If not ou may want to check out some of the crt hdtvs that are still on the market. In my expereince SD digital cable channels look better on a good crt than lcd. .......

8in while not considered very large, is in my opinion the size when you start to get decent low bass, anything smaller and you really dont get much low bass. This is just my expereince and I know alot .......

I do think that some of the good crt look better than lcd, for example my Samsung TSL2795hf looks amazing on 1080i hdtv and 480p dvds, at least as good as an LcD. But where it really takes the cake is .......

You would almost definitly get better results with an external DAC than pretty much any internal sound card IMO. An internal sound card uses the computers power supply which is definitly not designed .......

Ive found Schotky diodes to be better than Freds in the cd63, unless you need higher voltage or amperage than 100v/1a Schotkys are almost always a better choice. .......

Another upgrade I highly reccomend is building a little board with some regulators on it and giving the dac/decoder a seperate feed for thier analog and digital sections. Now I donno about your plater .......

I would replace them even if its just in a sub, opamp upgrades usually do alot for bass impact and dynamics, so i dont see why it wouldnt help in a sub. I believe the 4558 is just a standard dual opam .......

Well noise is the enemy of a good power supply, so you want to get rid of as much of it as you can. The less noise the better IMO, that is why when modding my cd player I treid to give each section it .......

Get a cd53 for $50 and mod it. I had an extensively modded Marantz cd53 and it easily beat out two of my buddies players, a Rega Planet and Naim cd3.5. It will take alot of work and it need more than .......

Jensen and BHC Aerovox both make the 4pole caps. I think they come in very limited sizes for power supply use only though, and are expensive. .......

Those are way to expensive im looking to spend no more than a few bucks a piece. the caps are the power supply filter caps after the rectifiers and before the regs. They dont need to be super audiophi .......

Ok i got the wire through the tone arm and everyuthing, but without the little plastic connector at the end the collar that holds the headshell on doesnt stay teght its loose even with the pin pressed .......

I agree the Marantz is a musical player but I think pretty much any decent new $1000 player will easily beat it. Check out the Rega Apollo for $1000. .......

I used an AA DTI+ between my Sony DVP7000 and Adcom gda-600 dac and the sound was excellent, but that was years ago. I was just wondering if they are still needed with lower jitter transports and dacs .......

Thanks , I didnt even realize Thorens made a suspended table anymore. I beleive the newer ones used a differant kind of spring, a leaf spring,instead of a coil, maybe this is why it works with the Reg .......

The Rega arms are not supposed to work well with suspended tables. Weter its a Thorens, Linn...etc I dont know why that is but have talked to a few vintage Thorens owners who actually prefered thier s .......

Linn arms are supposed to work very well on Thorens tables. I wouldnt go any higher than an Akito though as it wuld be overkill on that table i think? But a second hand Basik lvx plus would be nice. A .......

If your amp id capable of driving a 4ohm speaker which the Rotel should be, it wont be a problem. The problem is se is a bunch of mismatched speakers, in a 5.1 setup you want speakers that match well .......

The Nht's are not a difficult speaker load and the bass modules are powered so any decent 50w integrated shuld be fine. Cambridge Audio, Nad and Creek are just a few worth checking out. .......

Yes its a TP16, it wasnt the stock arm, the stock arm was damaged so I got the tp16 from ebay and installed it. Im not sure if the phono section on my intergated amp has enough gain for the Denon 160? .......

Thats a pretty small room for the 2ce's. A foot from the wall is definitly not enough IMO. In a room like yours the 1c might be a better choice im thinking the 2ce is going to be to much for the small .......

When the orgional Tjoeb 99 came out it was pretty rare to find an offordable player with a tube output stage. It seems its alot more comon now, so you have many more choices. The Jolida JD100, Shanlin .......

I am not familiar with the Cayin cdt17 but have heard the cdt22. I would say its pretty close in sound quality, but the Cayin definitly has the edge in build quality .......

I highly doubt a flea powered SET is going to drive a pair of ATC or Totems. For that kind of amp you need very efficeint speakers that are not only very senstive but also easy to drive. Thier arent v .......

IMO when it comes to speakers, stay away from vintage. Thier are a few reasons i say this, most import is that speakers start to wear out around 15 years or so, thier surrounds go bad and capacitors i .......

I read on Shures website that the combo will work and it would be an improvement but it stil wont be as good as a v15mx. So wether its worth the extra money is up to you, but its still not going to be .......

Just received the Thorens td165 that i won at auction for $55. Its in very nice shape, the bearing and motor are silent and the tonearm(TP11) has tight bearings with no play at all, the previous owner .......

There is really no specific reason to go vintage, although receivers have pretty much fallen out of favor with audiophile which means its very difficult to find a decent sounding 2-channel receiver th .......

Your better off powering down. I hve disconnected my speakers accidently while the power was on with no damage but is it rally worth the risk of killing your amp just to save 5seconds it takes to hit .......

If your using a cd player as a source you can probably drive the Prologue 5 with a passive pre-amp its input sensitivity is .8v so the 2v output of a cd player should be fine, you may give up a slight .......

How about a pair of active studio monitors?? Look in Sam Ash or Guitar center. I bought a pair of M-audi studio pro4 for my computer and they sounded better than any of the computer speakers from Logi .......

The AMD cpu uses less power and runs cooler than current Intel chips. They also perform a bit better in most tasks. But if the PC is only being used for playback of digital files you dont really need .......

Just to clear this up I dont listen to loud volumes or want bone-crushing bass. I actually listen at low to medium volumes ad only on very rare ocasions crank it up. .......

Hey im not saying the Spendor is a bad speaker, just not my cup of tea. BTW I also owned the PSB Stratus Gold I, I was powering them with a Mccormack DNA-1/TLC and your right the Gold will play extrem .......

The rooms arent close in size they are identical, exact same houses built by the same builder. The only slight differance is the paint on the walls, his is blue mines whit...:) But I agree the furnitu .......

Maybe we just have a differant idea of an in your face sound, as the Exposure has a driving, dynamic in your face sounfd that to me is great for hard rock. Some people consider in your face as bright .......

I think you are right, I think system synergy is among the most important aspects of a system. So an full Rega or Naim system will usually sound better than the sum of its parts. The only prtoblem is .......

I agree your homne system is just far more revealing of poorly recorded cds. The car stereo is much less revealing and also radio stations use EQ to make the sound better in cars and boomboxs and such .......

Also i should mention the system I sold was not the one with the Exposure XV in it, the XV is in my secondary system not the main rig. So saying that the Exposure XV is the problem and not the sound .......

The room his system was in was nearly identical as mine, his house is a few blocks away and are all the same layout. His room was the identical size and shape as mine with a similar amount of furnitur .......

What kind of system are you using?? If its a $99 boombox it sound like it could be possible. But for anything even mid-fi and up its hard to beleieve the car system sounding better than you home syste .......

You should be able to find a pair of SP100's on Audiogon or Ebay. Thge SP 9/1 isnt going to be so easy to find as they werent made for that long and werent very popular. Do you have a very large room? .......

I think both treble that is cranked up and dulled down are both wrong. It should be nuetral should ad or subtract, but thats just my taste. .......

I wouldnt buy the Acurus and expect it to be much of a differance over the Rotel amp. They are of about the same quality. The desciding factor will be what pre-amp you use with the Acurus, if your pla .......
