Thank you, yes I have also used teflon jacketed solid core wire in the past. Just for this project I am probably being a little ocd in wanting to stay with what was original in the amp. But otherwise .......

When you remove PC-6, you also remove the ground connection for the filament supply, and you will have DYNACO HUM :-). To correct this, run a wire from eyelet 20 to ground on PC-5. Best regards, Mike .......

Agree that a variac is useful for this purpose. However in the case of a tube rectified amp such as the ST-70, nothing much is going to happen until the supply voltage is high enough for the rectifier .......

I would look for a problem with the grounding of the input/output jacks. If you changed interconnects when testing the Mk IIIs, then perhaps a questionable solder connection was broken around the RCA .......

If you have replaced the selenium rectifier with a silicon diode, then yes, your bias voltage will be higher and may be out of the range of adjustment that you need. Suggest you try the bias expansion .......

I think you're right; not such a good idea. Unlike your PAS, the FM-3 does not have DC on the filaments, so you have no convenient source for power. Consider a 115V AC fan, and plug it into the access .......

This is just a guess, but are you perhaps measuring the voltage from one tube pin to ground? This voltage should be measured between pins 4 and 5, with one probe of your meter connected to each. Sorry .......

Definitely do not use the special or tape head inputs, unless you have a really old reel deck with no built-in preamp. These are low-level inputs that go thru the phono board, and will not work for hi .......

Agreed. Comparing stock circuits, the ST-35 is Dynaco's best sounding amp. They are relatively scarce, but if you're a DIYer, you can make one out of an SCA-35. Simply wonderful mids with my LS3/5as. .......

AFAIK, there are no standard pots that can be used in the stock circuit, only the original Dynaco pots. About the only way to use something other than the original pots would require a circuit such as .......

It sounds like you are referring to the two bias supply capacitors, which should be 50 mfd/75 volt. There's no need for an exotic cap in this position. Any good electrolytic cap will be fine, such as .......

Only factory wired units had a label with s/n on the chassis. The easiest way to determine the age of any ST-70 is to remove bottom plate and look at bias pots. Every ST-70 that I have seen has pots m .......

You should be able to find rope caulk at a Home Depot or similar, even a small hardware store. The stuff has been around for ages. It's usually with the weatherstripping products for windows and doors .......

AFAIK, Triode Kingdom is exactly right, it's half 12AX7, half 12AU7. However, NOS or used 7247/12DW7 aren't too awfully scarce, and both JJ and EI make good new ones. I have used both in a Dyna ST-35 .......
