I think they were a stock item at one time as I have seen listings with the model number...followed by "no longer available". I know what speakers they'll go into...I was just wondering if anyone knew .......

I guess I wasn't clear enough in my question...I do understand the general concept of swapping tubes within their own family..say.. dropping a 6201 in for a 12AT7, but I wasn't clear about swapping be .......

The plot thickens...apparently the answer is "it depends". I just checked the documentation(website) on my preamp and it says all three 12A?7's can be used...whew. The CDP documentation says only 12A .......

Geary, Much like many people I'm continuing the ongoing quest for that magic sound. I'm aware of the gain factor changes, maybe this is how I made a wrong turn somewhere in assuming the only differenc .......

Hmmm...hard to believe this got by me...I suppose it started from dropping 5751's in for 12ax7's and making a poor generalization from there. Fortunately the rolling I have done has been within the 12 .......

Sorry to be a toob-noob, but I was under the impression that 12ax7, 12at7, 12au7 (and equivalents 81's, 82's, 83's, 6189's, 5814...etc) could the used interchangably...is this not true? Application is .......

When your purchasing tubes there is always a fair bit of emphasis placed on how matched a pair of 12AT7's, 12AX7's...etc are. How critical is a close match? What impact on sound will a gross mismatch .......

I've only heard the E-IVs of the newer vintage(post Peter) & even these are 15-18 years old. I had tube power on the E-IVs & thought the setup sounded very good. Sweet & clean mids & highs, good bass, .......

You might try the IKEA Poang chair. Comes in many colors of wood & pads along with an ottoman if you like. Very inexpensive & very comfortable. Pads are washable. You could buy two & a small table in .......

A Yamaha T-2 (or T-1, but the T-2 is nicer) would fit your description. I have both. The T-2 is a very nice & great sounding unit...check out the tunerinfo.com site for descriptions & pics of all the .......

I'm a little surprised by the "been there, done that, doesn't work" responses. I thought a tube pre/SS power was quite common. Run such a combo myself. You might try the same question over at Audiogon .......

there was a guy (audio shop) on audiogon that would do it if you sent him one of your favorite CD's...this is how he expanded his music collection...not a bad idea actually. I think it was "essential .......

I was under the impression that the aluminum boxes didn't provide the shielding...if I'm in error there then the difference in cost isn't an issue and aluminum it is. thanks .......

I had a godar...don't remeber the model(2?), but it was long diamond shape & about 50 inches. I found it no better than a simple dipole, no matter what I tried. I'm 30 miles from stations with plenty .......

I have a pair of vandy 2ci's from a while back & just put them in another system. From some searching on the 2Ci's it seem folks saw the 3/4 inch tweeter as a drawback as compared to the 1 inch tweete .......
