Well thanks again for the suggestions. I ended up trying several switch positions to no avail, and I did end up hitting one of the 717As with 10 volts on the heater for about 10 minutes, figuring ther .......

Thanks Stu, Aside from the potential of incorrect tester setup, I did remember hearing someone have a similar problem with ancient NOS military tubes that needed a long cooking for them to come to lif .......

Actually, yes indeedy, They are called the Western Electric 87 amps. It later became the Altec 287F, (Not the W, which is class B I think) Same deal, just a input/phase splitter transformer driving t .......

It's hard to say what might lurk in there. Any way you could ask the sellers if you could open the back? (Presuming the back comes off) As said before, it could be an LC-1A, a really fantastic coaxial .......

Actually they are PP parallel 809 driven by PP 2A3. At least that was the early version of this amp (circa 1948) Depending on the age of this installation they may be 6B4 drivers, since the 2A3 was p .......

From the looks of it, it is an RCA system. The top two devices are the photocell preamps, probably MI-9328 or MI-9333. I can' tell the model of power amps, but they are certainly RCA. You can always .......

I actually measured the voltages of the power transformer with the rectifier disconnected. The transformer still got very hot in a short time, although the current draw was not enough to blow the fuse .......

I actually had 4 of these for a while. I tried them stacked 2 per side with a 511B horn on top, crossed over at 500 hz with stock Altec crossovers. I never really liked the sound of this setup in a sm .......

Without any hint of a model number or manufacturers mark on them, it is really hard to tell, but from the construction, I would say they are not tremendously old, at least not older than the early 50' .......

Interesting, RCA spec'd their MI-9355A 845 amp at 60W output with the 15 watt 6L6 driver amp. Somehow I think that was a conservative rating for a pair of 845's, although I am not sure how far out of .......

Thankfully all the old theater amps I have gotten running so far have worked fine with mostly stock parts aside from new filter caps, but it sounds like your amp may going into high frequency oscillat .......

I second the benefits of getting a good set of mini precision tools. I have the same Sears mini plier/cutter set and it serves me well. Not as nice as some fantastic Swedish Sandvik tools I used, but .......

I figured out my own question. It turns out the KL75304 is the Klangfilm equivalent to the European EZ12. I guess Klangfilm wanted to have a proprietary tube designation system like Western Electric, .......

RCA certainly did a good job at making sure these amps were reliable, then again since they were for professional broadcast use, a failure could have meant major technical difficulties at the station. .......
