One thing that can cause that is if enough dust gets into the stator to pull the bias voltage down some. It could also be one of the step up transformers in the SRD-7. One way to find out would be to .......

I'd hold out for an S5000. I've owned several of them all over the years including the receivers such as the S7700 & 8000 etc. The S5000 is the lowest powered but also the best sounding of the bunch. .......

Even though I own a VPI, especially with records that come from yard sales, Goodill, have visable mold or greasy fingerprints etc I always prewash them. I use a microfiber car detail rag with warm wat .......

The problem may be in the preamp more than the amp. Do you have access to a sillyscope? You could look at the output of the preamp and see whats happening. You could also look at the output of the amp .......

It could be you have a leaky coupling cap somewhere and at that volume enough dc is getting to the amp to trip its offset protection.. Dave .......

Probably what is happing is the stronger tubes are "current hogging" and working harder than the other therefore wearing them out faster until they get more in line with the others... Dave ::: TOPIC:: .......

Pretty much all the S & G r2r tapes came out 7.5 ips for the first release with the exception of "Greatest Hits" which is only 3.75. Subsequent releases of each title were 3.75 ips. Dave .......

Great find! Those were made by TEAC about the time Berlant sold out to TEAC and was renamed American Concertone (ironic name change). It was also sold as the TEAC 507/508. 507 is the stereo version .......

They just plug into little clamp sockets. If you can find replacements that are a little higher voltage they will usually last longer. The place I provided a link for in the other post has those bulbs .......

And it uses screw base 8 volt lamps. They are getting hard to find. This place has 7.5 volt ones (L-50) that should work. They are the same ones used in Kenwood stuff from that era. Dave .......

I got all four of these from a defunct radio station. Two have the thrust washers broken. When that happens the capstan shaft drops back about 1/4 inch inside the case. I was going to someday figur .......

The LT-22 is actually not that bad of a table. Its the baby version of their flagship linear LT-30. After the long sit its had the arm belts will likely need replacing. I am not familiar with the mmf- .......

I have owned many Tanbergs over the decades starting with a model 5. I still own a 6, 64, 64X and a 6000X. I love the sound of the tube models. Even the non crossfield head units like the 6 and 64 are .......

The 1022 and 1024 electronics are the same. The difference is the 1022 is half track and the 1024 is quarter track. The transports are very reliable and are nice in that they have an optional 4rth pos .......

The arm on the 698 is lower mass than the one on the 598 which is fairly heavy. Each arm would work better with a different range of cartridges. The 598 is well suited to a cartridge like the Denon 10 .......

I've only ever seen one copy on Fleabay and it got big bucks. Pentangle stuff on R to R was done by a company called Magtec "under license of Warner Bros, 1972". Never seen anything else on that label .......

Yes they are a very nice sounding pre amp for $200. Not much else solid state in that price range vintage wise that sounds as nice. I think the TA-5485 sounds a bit nicer than either of the 2000's but .......

I bought my Time Windows new in 1974. I had two pairs stacked for a while. My Time Windows go plenty loud with just the one Sherwood. You could probably tie the 16 ohm taps for both channels together .......

in your price range you should be able to get a Sony PS-X700 BioTracer. Sony had one of the better direct drive motors in the PS-X series. The BioTracer arm in these models can sound really nice also. .......

The easy guesses would be: 1) LSD sensor or buffer transitor (between sensor and controller ic) flaking out when warm. 2) Mechanism is gummed up to where its having a hard time stopping in correct loc .......

Overhead means they are meant to be on a boom or hanging over a stage. They are a general purpose full range mike. Depends on what you want to record. Probably not the best for great detail from an ac .......

Those are intended to be used for overhead and drums. They are a compact cardioid mike that requires phantom power. They can be had new for about $200 each so 2 for $250 is probably not a bad deal. Da .......

Apex model 460's. You can find them pretty cheap and they are tube condenser style with adjustable pattern and separate supply. They are ok stock but can be easily modified into however you want them .......

Yes, red is ruby, green is elliptical and clear is "Advanced Luminil Trace" at least in the F9 series. I have all 3 and the ruby by far sounds the best. Dave .......

Amazingly the cervice manual for the 126 doesn't even mentional replacing these bulbs though it does tell you how to replace the neon strobe bulb. It has a grainy picture of the pc board with the bulb .......

Was not one of their best built decks. Its 10.5" 3 motor. 1/4 track, auto reverse. 3.75 & 7.5 ips and they sound nice. If it hasn't been serviced it will most likely need rubber parts and cleaning/lub .......

Empire told us the Lubriplate was fine to use. We also used it to lube moving parts in record changer mechanisms etc. Was good stuff. The label on the stuff I have that its mil spec also. I see there .......

When I worked at Musicraft and we sold the Empires new we would always totally clean the bearing well and shaft and then use a wiping of Lubraplate and thats also how I oil my Empires now and it works .......

Its kind of like comparing apples to oranges. The 23R likes a lower mass arm and the DL103 likes something a bit heavier. I keep the DL103 on my Empire 598 and its a great combo. The 23R works good on .......

If your machine is 1/4 track, 2 channel it will play minus 2 channels of info. If your machine is 1/2 track, 2 channel it will play but some of the channel info will be blended and may not sound good .......

If you do decide to buy it make sure the lcd panel is ok. Some of them have lcd panels that work when the unit is cold but flake out after warm up and display garbage. I've had 2 of them with that pro .......

The Sony 150 might marginally sound better than Scotch 150 but it was meant to bias up the same so it could be used on machines factory set to Scotch 150. But yes its probably close to being the same. .......

Scotch 150 tape as many decks were set up for that at the factory at the time. Scotch 150 isn't the greatest, about the lowest grade tape you could use for music recording at 7.5 ips and expect ok res .......

I've noticed one thing with the 6336b tubes. They seem to have an internal structure (on the Cetrons anyways) that are designed to tighten up after they warm up. If you shake a cold cetron 6336b it ra .......

Yes they were. I worked for Musicraft when they sold them new and many customers would return them the next day all frustrated after hours of unsucessful attempts at trying to make them work. Definate .......

I forgot to answer about the price.. $500.00 seems pretty steep unless its in NOS condition. Many of these saw lots of use. I wouldn't pay more than $200-$300 for one depending on shape and completene .......

And that was the very first cassette deck with Dolby...I also have a Revox B710 and a 215 and 2 Eumig 1000s and they all make very decent recordings on a par with some consumer reel to reels at 7.5 ip .......

Which was the last of that series. It has phantom voltage on the mic inputs as an added feature. As far as I know its the only model in that series with phantom power. The APR 2003 does have XLR co .......

Back when those where new and I worked for the Musicraft service dept Empire told use to use Lubriplate and that wouldn't run out...Thats what I've been using in my 598 and 698 also and it seems just .......

I had opened a Paypal dispute on the Simon and Garfunkle tape, the one that had the Scotch blank tape in the box instead of the Columbia S&G tape. The seller is claiming the right tape was in the box .......

I agree 100%. I won't even go near the 3&3/4 tapes. Even back in the 60s when most companies switched to that for their commercially recorded tapes I thought they sucked even then and wouldn't buy the .......

No, I don't and I don't take folic acid or eat anything thats fortified with it either because it can also accelerate cancer growth...Once I was originally diagnosed with cancer I changed my diet quit .......
