Rod, my guess -- and it's just that -- is the wood would amplify the resonance problem while sticking out like a sore thumb :-) What you might do is is determine how much the cover actually contribute .......

Agree 100%. My experience is with new LinLai 845DB tubes and my Gallo Ultimates. For the longest time, tho probably less than 100 hours, anyone could hear the pathetic bass of these 845 tubes in my SE .......

There sure is a "dynamic stereo" version on Roulette reel-to-reel 4-track tape 'cause I own one. Same cover and notes as the LP which I also have. Wiser heads must have prevailed before the stereo LP .......

I love that deck, have two of them, one for dubbing. First one replaced a Teac X1000R, a beautiful deck that couldn't come close to the Otari sonically. I play a lot of 1 mil tape without problems but .......

I understand that was BC (before Carlin). In earlier times, slipping belts generally meant increased wow and/or flutter. I'm glad those days are over :-) .......

Not John, but I have an old Empire table too and found that the Jelco SA-750 -- 9" version -- is a literal drop-in replacement for the Empire arm if you keep the Empire arm's collar in place Same geom .......

The 9" Jelco SA-750D is a literal drop-in replacement for the oritinal Empire arm and a major improvement. If you keep the Empire tonearm "collar" in place, the Jelco arm slides right into it and the .......

My tape head connections are single-ended too. I wish now that I had opted for balanced in/outs to the deHavilland. My favorite balanced IC is the no-longer-imported and hard to find HMS "Gran Finale" .......

I had my DL103 body (no stylus, kept breaking them) re-tipped with an elliptical stylus and aluminum cantilever and could not be more pleased. Took some futzing and break-in time to get there. Cost me .......
