The top tube can run at higher current, it just drops more voltage. I really love the E80CC tube for gain stages and it probably will work for a top tube well. Something like the EL802 is a killer tub .......

The 7044 and close is 6350 6463. 7044 is pretty much identical except for basing. 6463 is very popular in Japan and Audio Note gear. I have seen numerous threads and even a set of plate curves compare .......

That's nothing. Try cutting a strip of the adhesive backed stuff and wrap your fuse with it. Cut it to fit inside the Metal ends So you do not bypass the fuse and do 2 wraps. INSANE !. .......

I believe the benefit is from less OS threads that are in swap file mode. Swap files are probably not a good thing from an audio player standpoint. I wonder if there is a way to limit the virtual/ swa .......

You want the iAtkos V7 disk. I own 2 macs and 2 mac clones. Both of the clones outperform the Apple units on Xbench by a huge margin. But then you cant get a 3.6ghz quad Apple with 8 striped hard driv .......

Actually it was an AC bypass. The shunt reg as setup stock doesn't give much HF AC regulation. I saw it on Broskie's pages on tube shunt regulation. Very simple to do with a big effect for little effo .......

Dan your are not getting anywhere. Damping factor is an amplifier measurement NOT a speaker feature. Solid state amps have very high damping factors, tube SET's with zero feedback have very low dampin .......

Actually you are looking at it wrong. Low inductance drivers have more linearity. High inductance woofers are generally made for high output situations like home theater subwoofers and sacrifice linea .......

The hang up is an issue with the thread priorities in winamp. I found you have to set one of the priorities lower than the others in Winamp. I get zero problems with the ASIO at the critical and Winam .......

The differences here are in milliseconds here not seconds. In live monitoring you can not hear the difference between 40 and say 80 milliseconds in delay but the latency has a definite impact on sonic .......

Yep! That is how to do it. My phono stage is a 417a fixed battery bias. I use a 1.5v alkaline soldered in place before the gridstopper. I have tried both the fixed/battery bias and cathode/bypass cap .......

If you are using grid bias things get a whole lot easier with DHT's. The hum problems you hear about are from floating supplies, grid bias and grounded cathodes (ALMOST GROUNDED ACTUALLY) are less pro .......

The big advantage to upsampling is the avoidance of the brick wall filter. It is moved much higher in frequency and can be made with a gentler knee at 192khz sampling. Upsampling also helps on disks r .......

They are a much thicker paper. The A-12/ F-12 cones are very thin. I have replacements that I bought from the same Ebayer for the A-12. If you use the thicker cones you will loose a few db's. The F-12 .......

You might be able to use a plactic washer at the bottom of the hole and put some mortite of even Fimo clay on top of it. Fimo will harden over time so it might make a nice easy permanent fix that is n .......

What about putting a switch on the filiaments and just turning them on / off. I know that this will cause some cathode stripping with the B+ full on but it should be better than leaving the tubes on 2 .......

I don't know if you can make it work that way. The dac needs 4v rms signal( professional balanced line) to get the full 24 bit rez. A CD player will be from 1 to 2 v and is NOT enough signal from what .......

I tend to overbuild the crap out of stuff. my preamp is no different. The supply that I like the most has a B+ of approx 480v. I used a very small oil cap CLC input with a rf choke before the 2uf cap .......

I too would ditch the mu follower and use either a parafeed output or a SE opt. The mu stage works but I think you will lose the magic of the DHT with it. The other option is to try a CCS like Gary Pi .......

The amp uses 2 A12 field coil drivers. One Field coli is 5000 ohms and one is 250 ohms. the 250 has 70 volts across it and is the choke in the ps leg. the 5k unit has 300v on it and is across the B+. .......

Isolating the chassis doesn't work using cones or rollers. Even rubber pucks do not work completely. The chassis itself will vibrate and transfer that to the tubes. Your best bet is a rigid and damped .......

yes I have. I used a 4mf Aerovox 370vac unit for a parafeed opt. Like all caps they need to break in for a while. They cost me about $3. They sounded way better than a Solen which I feel are a bit edg .......

The question is what effect does the high amperage charging pulses have on the non critical value choke. I bet that the inductance has an effect on the spikes and causes a pseudo choke input on the sp .......

Probably as the regulator becomes less effective at a very high frequency. If it is a fast higher spec reg there mabye less need for the wideband unit, it may even cause some stability problems. ::: T .......

I don't think you can even use 1 v across the reg. The low dropout units won't function either at that spec. I don't know where you are coming from here but I use a 6.3v winding into the CCS for my 26 .......

The preamp I am listening to now has a regulated supply so it doesn't need the low DCR route. IMHO It is 300v 40ohm/83rectifier/4uf/10H 100ohm/ 3uf/ 10H 100ohm/ 8uf with 36ma draw It has a nice sparkl .......

I don't know if this fits into the scheme you are doing with choke inputs but doubler supplies use transformers with almost 1/2 the dcr as a FW supply for the same voltage. You can get some serious 20 .......

350-6k. The PHL works out to be 94db with the step correction and the Audax is 96 db after eq I use a Sequerra T1 mk3 Ribbon tweeter on top. .......

I have the Audax and the PHL. The phl is way more transparent. The Audax seems to get more bass but I believe it is just higher distortion and it doesn't have a motor structure with flux shorting ring .......

Madisound has the drivers and cabinet's for the 206 Back loaded units. Nice! Or build a Voigt pipe with a Fe166 like the Cain Abby. .......

Might I suggest the Von Schwiekert line. They really sound like live music with out a lot of power. If you want high eff look at some tractrix horns like the BD Oris systen, The Edgar Horn or the ones .......

I think a series would be a killer idea on a coaxial. Probably the only good way to get a perfect response from a system with no driver offset. High order xovers are tougher in series though. I have a .......

I am using a 9.6v NIMH in place of a cathode resistor. It is a super clean natural sound and really helps kill the hum from floating supplies. I have 155v on the plate of the 26. No need for a bypass .......

I have National, RCA and Silvertone's in both style ST's ie. both the shiny and matte plates. They all have the sonic character of either the shiny or the matte's as i described earlier. The mica seem .......

With 2 coats of Damar the Audax is beautiful. Dynamic and detailed with a warm midrange. It has a rising response that is easy to eq and mates well to ribbons on top. Don't have any experience withthe .......

I wonder if it is the DCR or the low flux large core that causes the better sound. I guess the only way is to have a custom unit made that has a core that is rated properly for the draw but with heavy .......

Have you seen the waveguides from Parts Express. They are like a mini Oris tractrix. They have a 6", 8" and 12" for pennies. Not as much directivity gain as an exponential but I am willing to bet bett .......

Straight from the RCA spec sheets 211 with 1250 v on plate = 9200ohm load 845 with 1250 v on plate = 11000ohm load That is a almost 25% more than a 211's recommended line Using an 845 in a circut desi .......
