Thanks. Got it. I should've known that but got confused by the 4 wires going to the rectifier tube. It made me think 4 connections... 4 diodes... Then I looked over the schematic again and instantly g .......

I don't suppose you could elaborate on this a bit? Does it matter that the TC caps have very low ESR? 45uF-1.4 mili-ohms, 110uF-1.6 mili-ohms I guess I could just use the 45uF caps. That'll save a few .......

If one included a turn on delay circuit, could you just skip the 5AR4 and use a bridge rectifier or make one with 4 diodes? .......

I see. I would highly recommend checking into upgrades for your PAS either by Joe Curcio or Bob Latino and having someone install them for you. I honestly think a tube preamp will sound better than an .......

If you like building tube gear then consider checking out the Bottlehead Quickie. It's a very simple battery powered tube preamp. It doesn't come with a phono stage but you can always add an outboard .......

It might be worth updating the crossovers for your front and center channels. Old crossovers are always going to make the speakers suffer. Check with Bob Crites as he's pretty knowledgeable regarding .......

For the record, the caps I chose are 45/110/45/110uF with the 110uF caps bypassed with 0.1uF caps. That's less than Joe's SCA-35 upgrade. .......

So I got a pair of 2.2uF MR caps and swapped them in for the Clarity Cap ESA caps of the same value I had in my Bottlehead Quickie preamp. I have to say Paul's description is spot on. Soundstage opene .......

I've been told that carbon comp resistors are the ideal for grid stoppers. The trick is they need to be as close to the tube as possible. Be careful as they are a bit more fragile. The value isn't too .......

This is good news. I've been on the fence about ordering some MR caps. I'm very familiar with Clarity's ESA series which have a distinct clarity but can be a bit too warm on the top end for my tastes. .......

I did it to my Mk IVs and while I can't say it's a dramtic difference it does seem better. I'm not 100% sure but I've been enjoying them all day today nonetheless! And isn't that what it's all about? .......

In my opinion putting the choke after the output tranny stages is a better mod than all the others I ever heard. It makes the amp much faster. That choke is way undersized for the job it supposed to .......

I would recommend Bottlehead. Their S.e.X. Amp is an absolute giant-killer of a tube headphone amp. They also have a cheaper model called the Crack which has received good reviews too. I own the forme .......

I found my rebuilt ST70 sounded it's best after around an hour of warm-up time. The same happens for my Mk IVs. Maybe it's the tubes I use which are Valve Art. Excellent tubes by the way. With the Dyn .......

I like the 22awg copper/teflon wire from homegrownaudio.com. It's real easy to work with and can be stripped with a nail clipper. I've also used their silver wire to good effect although it's much mor .......

Solens are pretty cheap. You could try them out and listen for yourself. Currently I've been using Erse caps in my sex amp and found them to sound somewhat better than the stock Solen/polystyrene caps .......

I recommend Homegrownaudio's copper and silver wires. They even have some that are cotton insulated. The teflon wire is a breeze to work with and sounds great. The cotton is a bit tricky to strip but .......

It is a highly modified Foreplay II. It's actually quite different from the FPII now. Still not as good as the FPIII but passable. One of these days I'll get me the newer version. .......

Do you really NEED 30'? You should try to keep your speaker cables as short as possible. I usually recommend Kimber 4VS or 4TC but they run more than a buck a foot. The blue jeans cable is a good choi .......

I upgraded the caps in my Klipsch speakers with Jantzen caps and I would say they need between 100-150 hours to sound their best. They didn't sound great when I first installed them but really started .......

My favorite wire for my projects is homegrownaudio silver and copper wires. You can strip them with nail clippers (and a light touch!) and they're just very easy to use. Recently I've found their 22aw .......

I had that trouble too. That imbalance can be overcome by using mono pots or getting yourself a good balance control. As for it being too loud too quickly on the pot here's a link to what I did to fix .......

the tubes should be biased to 50-55mA per tube, what does that mean? In the standard circuit the bias measurement is 1.56VDC. With Joe's DC bias mod I'm supposed to get .5VDC per tube. I'm not always .......

You can get some great and cheap caps at parts express. They also carry Kimber Kaps, which I use, but they cost more. Still, when I rebuilt my old Foreplay 2 I used Solen caps and it sounded very good .......

I think the B&Ws have a sensitivity of 86 dB which would make them a tougher load for the Bottlehead amps. Mating the Foreplay with a good solid state amp like a Bryston would probably work better. Ro .......

I still use PBJ although most of my cables are made with Homegrownaudio.com silver wire. PBJ is hard to beat for the money but if you want the refinement of KCAG yet don't have the cash for it, check .......

As long as you're bi-wiring, another tip for you is to connect the negative terminals at the speaker. I got this tip from John Risch and it did seem to have a positive effect. Don't ask me how or why. .......

I would recommend Kimber's Kwik-12 in-wall wiring for surrounds which runs around $1.20/ft. From what I've heard it sounds pretty good. But if you insist on getting braided cable then go for 4VS. It's .......

I wouldn't recommend the 22awg solid core wire from radio shack. Cheap insulation and the wire will break if you manipulate it too much. My personal favorite is 22awg silver wire from homegrownaudio.c .......

Check your speaker wiring for shorts. Also check your speaker ratings. You might have too little power if you're driving a lot of speakers. Otherwise you may have a bad deck. Rob C The world was made .......
