The convention is, yes, to connect the shield with the ground at the source end. I believe Jon Risch has suggested connecting a capacitor between the shield and ground pin at the amp end of the cable .......

Over in the Cables Asylum, cotton is constantly touted as having the best dielectric properties next to air. If it's at all practical, try wrapping the caps with some cotton fabric, then tie them down .......

Some electrical codes allow for this to be done on 2 wire circuits. As far as audio performance is concerned though... (?) Grounding outlets = rewire. Could be real expensive... .......

You're right. The jacket in not Teflon, the insulation is. For DIY Cat5 speaker cables, though, you throw out the jacket anyway : ) .......

On a good recording, I close my eyes and the whole back wall (behind the speakers) seems to disappear. Especially on classical recordings, the room just seems to grow a little wider and whole lot deep .......

If you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty, dump the RS IC and make your own with Eichmann bullets and Belden 89207 cable. You're probably looking at 60$ + a bit of time. Then, tweak your amp .......

Given that CAT5e cable was never intended for audio, "premium" may be a hard adjective to hook on to any part # cat5e. Until Belden realizes it could sell it's 1585A for more to us audionuts, I think .......

Like John C says.... Build up the difference with heat shrink. If you can find some with an adhesive liner, you'll have super secure fastening as the heat shrink won't slide if pulled on, and the heat .......
