The biggest gain (pun intended) in using an active preamp, IMO, is it adds more "contrast" to the signal, by that I mean the amplitude of the signal. In other words, using a good active preamp can amp .......

It could have just been a random tube failure due to gas. At the shop the other day, we had a Rogue Stereo 90, with a set of relatively new EH tubes in, that one of the KT88 output tubes glowed bright .......

It may have been that the extra current draw from the 6N30P (6H30pi) heaters did some damage to the power supply, and it could only kick out enough current to get the other tubes hot enough. In a LOT .......

Mike B. is correct. I repaired an MA6100 before that had the same problem. Over 75% of the carbon traces were GONE. A new pot would've cost the customer a LOT, so I rebuilt the old one with new(er) ca .......

Before you give up hope, check the protection circuit itself: relay contacts, capacitors, relay driver transistors/chip, etc. You'd be surprised how many amps stuck in protection are that way due to a .......

It's difficult to tell from that photo, but it looks like a simple dual-mono line-stage preamp (a VERY WELL built line-stage preamp). It is possible though that some of those relays switch the phono s .......

Actually, the MOSFETs can lose power and volume just before they fail. If the tubes are all fine, there may be only a day or two that the weak channel will function. I have an SA-12 that was exhibitin .......

I haven't heard the Quicksilvers yet, but I have heard the phono stage in the SA-1000, which I currently own, and I once repaired an SA-5000 (the phono stage in fact), and the phono stage of the SA-50 .......

To add to cliff's good suggestions, especially for out of circuit testing: If you are unsure of the transistor's pinout or type, go to www.alldatasheet.com and look it up. It's not difficult to figure .......

Just one bit of input from me, if you listen to vinyl at all, you may want to consider getting the C162 first. I've always liked NAD's preamps, and almost all of them have had outstanding phono stages .......

Most TVs have small "chip amps" for audio output, and a single "full range" (LOL, yeah, RIGHT) speaker per channel. Most of them are very small, and have very limited excursion, very much like a cheap .......

Many things can cause a unit to stay in protection mode, it could be something simple, or not. The only way to tell is to have someone look at it for you. One thing to check for yourself, depending on .......

Yep, phono stage is standard. It is a very good opamp-based phono stage, with a REALLY nice tube line stage. The build quality on just about every Rogue piece I've seen is very high, but they don't go .......

Out of all the failed toroidal transformers I've seen/dealt with, only one of them WASN'T stacked. In general, there are many reasons for NOT doing it. In fact, one of the better multiple-toroid setup .......

I agree with JefferyJ on the tube socket! A bad tube socket drove me crazy trying to repair an old Fender Bassman amp. Triple-checked every component, all were in spec, found a bit of not-so-good wire .......

It sounds like you are dealing with really old solder, or solder that has been stressed by an overheating component. Once it melts, use a sucker if you have one, and then CLEAN the board of flux, dirt .......

A glitch is basically a bit error. There can be quite a few reasons ripping slower causes fewer or less of them, such as less vibration in the CD mechanism, so less read errors, slower speed=less buff .......

Definitely switch the preamp on and let it get reasonably warmed up before switching the power amp on. That should solve all of the problem, not require the addition of extra circuitry, and best of al .......

My 0.02 on this: Refoam the drivers, especially if they are the metal flanged ones. I'm a repair tech also, and for a driver I know is good, or hard to replace, refoaming is a no-brainer. MANY factors .......

I'm rebuilding an NAD 705 receiver, which also has burnt-out backlight bulbs. I'm going to replace them with bright white LEDs, and use a dropping resistor on each. Should be the end of the burned out .......

I second the 1020!! I've upgraded the volume pot in mine, and replaced all the electrolytics with Nichicon Muse, and it's VERY clear-sounding now. BTW, the volume pot helped a LOT, we could hear many .......

I've actually had very good success with the TNT tip, at least on the three NAD 3020-based amps I've used it on, and mostly out of necessity. I learned the hard way that you simply can't just swap out .......

I have tried the T-Amp (as yet unmodified) with both sets of speakers I currently own. On my Clements 206di's, which are MTM floorstanders (90db sensitivity, 10ohm impedance), the amp played just fine .......
