Downside is speed. I only use it for my NAS to back up to, which took a while to start with. Free, unlimited space, just slow. Perfect for backing up bulky music folders to an offsite, pretty safe, lo .......

I had the Falcon/Roadrunner units for my Scout with the 30rpm motor, and had to upgrade to the Eagle due to power needs of that motor. Both the Falcon and the Eagle work great. It is quite comforting .......

Out of habit, I use my screw on clamp with my VPI Scout. I have the new aluminum platter, with the step off of the top as described for the Traveller. I use the Herbies mat, and do like it for its fit .......

I upgraded my Scout (with signature wiring) to 300rpm motor, then the 1.1 platter and bearing, and most recently the Phoenix Audio Roadrunner PSU unit has yielded a very nice sound. Speed is now rock .......

I have read of testing showing no problems with unequal speaker wire lengths. With low power amps, I prefer to put the amp between and close to the speakers, and run longer interconnects. .......

You do know that you can plug your active speakers right into your airport express? There is a 1/8th plug right there, and the airport express works as a DAC. Just use airplay on your laptop, or iPhon .......

I use the record clamp, for sure. It does not cause the edge of the record to move down to the platter. The clamp on the original platter would help flatten some records, using the O-ring in the cente .......

I second the DVI - HDMI cable. I used one with an older DVD player that offered DVI out. I could not tell the difference from a true HDMI connection on the 720p Sony plasma I was running at the time. .......

In the current 4.1 assembly instructions, Brian states that the 1.1 board is still used, but that the "analog filtering section" of the board is bypassed. There is a section of the board that is empty .......

I priced a build similar to my machine at EndPCNoise.com. They sell the bigger fanless case from mine, allowing the SoTM card. It built out at 2.4K. So similar hardware, from a semi custom PC builder .......

Have a look at page 40 of the L1 build manual that is currently on the ANK site. It specifically shows where to put 2 47K resistors in place of the volume control. Even if your board is a bit differen .......

My 4.1 kit came with AN Tantalum resistors. I did up grade my 2 power supply board resistors prior to building. (I got the "M2 PSU Upgrade" kit from Parts Connexion and the 4 for the digital PSU) Hard .......

There is much discussion about the Leben Japanese amps on HeadFi. I don't think that they are made for 120v at all, only the Japanese 100v. Most use step-down units, and all recommend against using 12 .......
