I have used the DACT attenuators in my dual mono pre also of 50k. Very easy to balance the the volume, but don't expect any earth shattering improvement in sound quality considering the price. ::: TOP .......

Hi Stu, You are right most of the new rectifiers don't like being close to their tolerances. I was chatting to a friend & he said that its not worth blowing the imput trannies for a lower voltage rect .......

Personally as a contact enhancer I'm not in favour of quicksilver. Perhaps you should find Stabilant 22 a better choice, which has a contact life of about 15 years. It is very clean & goes a long way. .......

I use the CV4024 Brimar Mil spec tube in my 2A3, tons of getter on these babies. These are not as expensive & the sound is not so far away from the Mullard. Parts Connextion has them. .......

The pins are gold plated & I always use Stabiliant 22 on my pin & plug connections, so I doubt that would be the issue here. It would be interesting to take a microphonic tube & demagnetise it to see .......

I would suggest perhaps a Wadia 860x or if you can find it an 861. You have the advantage of being able to upgrade as you have the funds. Warm full sound, that won't fatigue you, & is often compaired .......

Having done both to my amp, its likely the PS caps are the most tired. If you want to retain the vintage sound something like Jensens may be a good option. I had my trannie replaced with a quality Bla .......

Yes the one to use is Stabilant 22, which is a non metallic contact enhancer. You use a very thin layer & it won't cause arc'ing like metal based enhancers. I think BMW & Audi use it on their car circ .......

I've tried the Cardas & Mundorf SIO's in the coupling positions of my Aronov 60W tube amp. I found the Cardas leans towards the warmth with good clarity. The Mundorf SIO's are superior as coupling cap .......

Yes cables do make a difference. I once tried running my sub on the JPS Superconductor 2 IC's & the bass was sucked straight out of it. I swapped it back to the Transparent cable & it all flooded back .......

Yep, I swapped them for a set of WBT's, as I have changed the connectors from bananas over to spades on my speaker cables. The WBT's are to narrow for Cardas spades. Personally they don't look as pret .......

I have US cords plugged into 240 volts into my power conditioner. It saves changing the plugs on the cords, when its easier to convert the wall sockets. I don't find the US plugs are as tight a fit as .......

Driver tubes Mullard CV4004 & power tubes KT90 type2's. This combo is very neutral. I don't use a preamp, just drive it straight from a Wadia. regards Ian .......

Most of the time. The 5751 is a lower gain tube, so it will make the power supply work harder. Depends on the type of amp & how its setup. If in doubt don't do it, there are plenty of 12AX7's to roll .......

I put them in the output coupling of my Aronov power amp. I have Jensen paper in oil in the power supply. I have a Wadia CD player so don't use a preamp. My ears lean towards neutral with some warmth. .......

I have 2 computer fans superglued together & suspended on nylon. This way its isolated from the rest of the gear. Buy big fans & run them on 3.5-5 volts, that way they run slow don't make any noise & .......

I had the same problem with my both my Aronov tube pre & power amp. I dampened the power transformer with sorbothane sheet in the preamp & it became as quiet as a mouse. The power amp eventually blew .......

Stick to the 12AX7's, as the results may be unpredictable. A lower gain tube will make the power supply work harder. If you want to really improve this amp, change the crap signal coupling capacitors .......

The most black sounding 12AX7/ECC83 in my amp is the 1963 GE Large Plate from Kevin Deal. Very low microphonics with an open detailed sound. Probably be a good choice for horns which tend to often pus .......

Jensen paper in oil caps get my vote for the power supply. Black Gates are good but take a long time to run in, and are better if the unit is left on all the time. Think about Hovland for the signal c .......

Hi folks, I liken dead tubes to having a blanket over the speakers. I'd check for ear wax first. Pearl tube coolers apparently will extend tube life, and sweeten things up a bit. regards Ian ::: TOPI .......
