Use CLR which is a descaling cleaner you can find at Walgreens or CVS. Pour enough into a small container (you can use a plastic 2 liter bottle cap for 9 pin tubes like 12AX7's) to cover the pins. Lea .......

There really is no difference at all. The "JW" just means that Western Electric designated that particular tube as adhering to whatever military standard was required for the tube. In some cases this .......

Thanks for the help... I found out the problem! It was an incorrectly polarized electrolytic on my home made power supply board. Amazing it didn't do a jiffy pop on me. Anyway, it's fixed and sounds g .......

Just as a side note, the Gennies are very nice KT-66's. I used them for about 1 year, but honestly, I retired them for the Russian 6n3c-e. Personally, I think the 6n3c-3 sounds better in my system THA .......

It's quite possible that what you have are re-branded tubes, possibly Russian, Chinese, or British made. Pictures would tell the story. A lot of people scream "FAKE!" which gives the false impression .......

It sounds like one of your receiver tubes. Try cleaning sockets and maybe rolling tubes a bit when the radio is playing to see if you can pin-point one or another as your culprit. .......

I have rebuilt about a dozen of these now. I just finished one yesterday. I build a power supply board for them and this time I went up to 330uf on the inputs to the boards, 220uf for the B+ and 9400u .......

Definitely Siemens manufacture...kinda hard to fake them with the metal tags inside. I think the only other company to do that is Tungsram. The "A" means these tubes were produced at WIRAG or the Wien .......

The 12AX7's in my bedroom system Pas-3 have been dead for years. They test at 34 or so on each triode, where 32 is the minimum. They sound fine. Then again, the PAS-3...eh... "I KNOW you can hear it .......

It's quite possible you smoked a resistor somewhere and it would still play. I would check all the resistors and see if they match up. Is this point to point wiring or PC boards? Another possibility i .......

That hasn't been my experience entirely. Actually, Tektronix rather vigorously & extensively tested tubes for use in their equipment. I do not know if normal use in a scope would create a noise proble .......

The bigger ones have 20 or more of these and usually different brands in the same scope. Find one that works or at least powers up. I had one with Telefunken E88CC's, Orange Globe A-Frames, and bugle .......

You are right...I don't know much, but I have had some reasonable amount of success rebuilding and repairing ST-70's. Hopefully I know enough to perform what I do know safely. I have a healthy respect .......

Hello! I measured the choke and got 62 ohms. I checked the voltages there and I get only 405vdc on the capacitor after the rectifier. I lose 25 volts across the choke, does that sound correct? I notic .......

I think the choke in my ST-70 is blown...gets very hot and is sweating wax after just 3 to five minutes. I'm having serious trouble bias too high glowing plates. Or maybe another reason the choke is h .......

Mine had RCA labels but they were unmistakably the ones you have pictured. In my system anyway, the Russian tubes sound much better. I changed them over to the Sylvanias and listened to them for a few .......

Yes the E34L is the same tube. With that designation they may be old stock Tesla's which in my opinion are VERY, VERY good. Do they have dual halo getters stacked one of top of another? Brown or black .......

The tubes you have are usually very long-lived in equipment of the kind you pulled it from, and in general they are high quality tubes to begin with. Plug it in and keep your ears and eyes open...clea .......

I've been telling people for years if you want a bargain...However, you may find the highs a bit shrill with the Matsushita's 12AX7. I do. Anyone else? These things even flash on start-up like Mullard .......
