If you want yet another opinion... I too use Kevin Carter's (K&K) CCS's. One is on top of a 6SN7 in a 2 stage amplifier composed of the 6SN7 cap coupled to a 12B4a in parafeed configuration. Makes for .......

I like what you did. What damper diodes did you use? I think its great that you did, I'm not a fan of the 5AR4, etc...especially when damper diodes exist, are cheaper and more neutral. No tube rolling .......

Great work! I did try the 6C45 in my own headphone/parafeed preamp but I never did like it, although I never went as far as using shunt regulated power supplies, etc....its a tube that requires proper .......

I had a similar conversation with Kevin this morning. This ST70 board he is selling is quite unlike anything else out there, so to call it an ST70 board, well....it certainly fits into the cutout hole .......

Mike, An asylum member who goes by the moniker 'keto' has built a preamp using the 76 tube (great tube btw) and did indeed use a 15K:500 transformer with success. Running the 76 at 5mA should be fine. .......

I don't know what the exact power supply requirements are for the Duet, but on their website, it lists the receiver needing 9V with a minimum of 550mA. That's a quite a different spec than the 12V @ 2 .......

Damper diodes. They are the only tube rectifiers I use. Superior sounding to the usual run of the mill 5AR4's, 5Y3GT's, etc....haven't tried Mercury vapor rectifiers though. Slow turn on rectification .......

Nice work. In fact, you could easily build a decent EL34 amplifier using Lundahl output transformers, a power transformer, EL34 tubes for just a small increase in price versus purchasing a used ST-70 .......

Thanks Dave for your efforts. The options out there range from an ELPAC wallwart that's $100 to a $950 supply by Wayne at Boulder. I think we can do just as well with the Minimal Reactance PS however. .......

Most driver stages have a measly 1-3 dB of driver headroom. This includes many two stage amplifiers. Try 6-8 dB of driver headroom, that's where the real fun is. Look at Kevin Carter's designs and Lyn .......

Bas, Cleans it up. Blacker silence, more decay, smoother overall. Probably even more effective on the digital input in the RAKK dac, but I haven't experimented with it yet. Expensive tweak though. So .......

Bensky, I would go with Kevin's choices either the 6N1P or 6CG7. You can also try the 2C51/5670/WE396a or 5965/12AV7/7062. The 2C51 has about the same gain as the 6N1P and the 5965 has about 3dB more .......

Try DACT knobs www.dact.com You can get them from www.diycable.com or www.nutshellhifi.com DIY cable's site also has the Exodus knobs which are much cheaper but are not the super bullet proof quality .......

I went to True Value Hardware in Hamburg,NY and got them to cut me (4) four foot lengths (off of the 6 foot lengths they had in stock) of 3/4 inch diameter zinc plated threaded rods. Pretty heavy! Als .......

Thanks, I actually meant I just needed them cut to 5 foot lengths since I am building a shelf with 5 platforms, 12 inches space between each platform with each shelf being 1.5 inches thick. That gives .......

I agree with James' comments. In addition, I have found that Chris Ven Haus' prices on his power cords are so low that you save about 50% building them on your own, which for me isn't enough to justif .......

Thanks to both you Chris and Keith. Yes, I should definitely try these cables. And Element cable themselves told me the EC Biwire is made out of Canare. I suspect its similar to Signal's Biwire cable .......

Besides the fact that digital side is designed really well, the K&K Audio RAKK dac sounds extremely good for this very reason->it uses amorphous core output transformers and is a fully balanced design .......
