I have no specific amp in mind at this time, but one of the ones I currently use is specified at 1.6V for rated output, which is 175W/8Ohm and 350W/4Ohm. .......

Thanks Victor! I meant, of course, if gain is not actually included in the specs. Let's say my current amp has an input sensitivity of 50k Ohm and another 70k Ohm - what would be the actual difference .......

I'm still on a Monarchy Audio 22A, although modded to use 3 DACs per channel and with some improvements to the output stage. Don't ask what, cause I've no idea. :-) I just handed it to my local audio .......

Nothing inherently wrong with music over the internet, as far as I'm concerned. Lossless formats are perfectly viable with today's bandwidth and converting and burning the files to CD is child's play. .......

Never much liked the Clearaudio carts myself; I find them a bit "thin" or "shrill" if you will, with too much emphasis on detail. The Benz family however, are my favourites - excellent retrieval of de .......

Because the weaker the motor, the less vibrations it adds to the equation. A motor with enough torque to start the Nottingham's very heavy platter, would be that much more likely to resonate and pollu .......

Living in Europe I've never heard the Thiels or Meadowlarks, but compared to e.g. Martin Logan Odyssey, Ruark Excalibur and B&W 801 my Avatars (sold them some 6 months back) did very well in the sound .......

Very safe and very fast, but sadly it costs a lot more than a few bucks on the sender's side. Here in Norway at least, the starting fee is along the lines of $30, going up, up, up depending on how muc .......

For my money, the RPM4 is extremely hard to beat in the price/performance stakes. Well, the 6.9 is actually a tad better, but I see Needledoctor doesn't carry that particular model. The table and arm .......

Entirely a matter of taste of course, but for my money it would have to be Mirage at the specified price range. Unbeatable for HT (which I no longer use btw) in my opinion and excellent for stereo too .......

Check out ebay.de (Germany) for a number of Thorens decks and other interesting stuff. The Germans are great hi-fi enthusiasts and often suckers for esotheric equipment, so at times you can find some .......

Not THAT big a range, surely? The Shure, at the low end, is £85, while the Grado Platinum is £212. I'm in Norway by the way, but will probably be buying from Origin Live in the UK, hence prices in £. .......

It is indeed a medium mass arm (Project 9) and although I'm not at all clear on the difference between substantial and vestigal headshells, I'll hazard a guess in favour of substantial... :-) I very m .......
