I had my machines aligned quite a while ago (at least 4 years) - he was charging about £32 an hour then. It would be worth phoning him to discuss (check the website if necessary). .......

I have had several cassette decks set up & repaired in the past by Andrew who trades as Abacus Electronics. His website is www.abacuselectronics.co.uk. He has done a very good job and can turn his han .......

This machine was the top of the JVC range in 1978, and cost, as far as I remember, over £300 in the UK. It had a very good review in the UK magazine Hi Fi Choice (check out their website www.hifichoic .......

This machine was top of the Aiwa range in the late 1970s. It was very highly regarded, and is still available on Ebay - in fact I have seen a US example recently. I owned an Aiwa AD-F770 (the next one .......

I am still buying cassettes, and have just had to get another storage case (on Freecycle (UK)). On my CR-7E many prerecorded tapes are at least the equal of CD. I also have a DR-2. A good source (at l .......

I have lost count of the exact number of cassettes I have, but it must be close to 700 - over 400 recorded myself on a succession of decks (approaching 20 different machines) that I owned before getti .......

I second the comments about cassette v other sources. I have a CR-7 with an otherwise fairly humble system (Audiolab 8000a amp & Kef Coda 2 speakers from 1982), along with a Linn Sondek/Basik/k9 cartr .......

The Yamaha TC-800D was around about 1975, and was designed by Mario Bellini. It has a unique wedge-shape and is regardrd as a design classic. It was also an excellent performer for its time. The TC-80 .......

Maxell UD was the higher quality tape - but I have not seen any for years. The Maxell Ferric tape pecking order was UDXL I, then UD, then UR. UR is still readily available in the UK, and I have had ve .......

Another suggestion is the Sony WM-D6C Recorder - this also has the disc drive, amorphous head and very low wow & flutter. Using this machine to record your vinyl also removes any compatibility problem .......

I seem to remember that JVC decks of that period were generally reckoned to be consistently well performing - I think that model had good reviews in the UK. I owned several JVC machines around 1979-19 .......
