All you need to do to make a 2445 fit a 2482 is re-drill using an old mounting ring from a 2482 as a template. The top plate is a little thicker on the 2482 so it has a very small amount less output a .......

A 2482 is about 5dB down at 4.5Khz, with a small peak at 5Khz, and is another 10dB down at 6Khz (-15dB total). An Altec 209/292 is flat to 6Khz (most horns), and much smoother overall. See TL231 at Gr .......

Hi Magnetar The 2440 & 2482 have different top plates plus the noted difference in the diaphragm types. JBL opened up the gap on the 2482 to increase its thermal circulation . Seventies era JBL info .......

I believe Ed Billeci used to use JBL 2482's on Sato horns down to 200hz, although he said they went down close to 100hz. Of course those don't go all the way up like your TAD's do... The 2482's are ch .......

I have a pretty mint pair of 2482s I could probably be talked into parting with. They are nice, definitely better on the bottom end than 2440/2441 (which I also have). I ended up going with RCA 9584, .......

You're probably right given my experience with the 2441. But I'm crossing it over at around 10K even though the 2441 starts falling off at around 8K and is down significantly at 10K. The 2482 is suppo .......

No. I looked at the specs though and the 2482 appears to drop like a rock beginning at 5K which seems like it'd be harder to mate with a tweeter to fill in the top end. Like anything, the horn, crosso .......

+ 2440 have a stronger magnet 20,000 G and the 2482 is 17,000G i think we . we redrilled the 2440 to use the phonolic and had to open the gap just a hair to fit right !!! it has been fun there really .......

If you are looking for an “open” sounding low mid, I would suggest the cones over a 2482. I have not used a 2482 intentionally below 500 HZ, but even at that frequency preferred the sound of a horn lo .......

You might be able to find a used JBL 2482 driver cheap. It's a 2" throat(4" phenolic diaphram, handles 60 watts RMS), so you would have to do some plumbing to your tube, but it is at least 6dB more ef .......

Hi Billy Your question is odd. I have some 2482's, they are a 4 bolt 2" throat and the horn bolts right to the face of the machined steel casting. If the tapped holes are damaged then get a machine sh .......

yet this does not jive at all with my experience.. I thought the 2482 sounded very good on a 45 Hz horn... it struggled to be as dynamic as a 12" on a shortened version of the same horn in the 60 to 1 .......

You might try a BMS H4540ND on a small circular horn. Most tweeters that go low enough to mate with a 2482 are probably fragile as well. JBL uses the H4540ND in some of their Vertec models (as the 240 .......

The top plate on the 2482 is a bit thicker than the other 4" coil models, and the dowel pins are spaced differently. You can take off the bottom spacer ring on a blown 2482 diaphragm, bolt it onto any .......

Those are very nice compression drivers However the freq range with the original diaphragms is 300hz to 6khz for that compression driver But...Radian makes a full range diaphragm for that compression .......

The Community M-4 was (is?) a purpose built compression driver for the 300hz-3kHz decade. At lower (home use) levels, it will perform really well. My experience has been that a good 10" or 12" speaker .......

The secret may be in the 'anular half-roll' suspension. I know I like the JBL 2440 for the lower crossover points better than the 2241 with the 'diamond pleat' suspension. The Altec 'iris' type suspen .......

The 2482 is a very good midrange driver, and many have come on the market in the past few years as sound system providers have shifted to the newer lightweight drivers. You have to be a careful shoppe .......

Unless I'm mistaken, a phenolic (2482) diaphragm will not fit a 2441. Something about the thickness of the voice coil gap and location of the line-up pins. .......

I think you would risk damaging the diaphram, as they were designed to use the horn for gain, and so, not mean't to move very far. May be possible with high x-over and slope, and at low volumes, but .......

I'm not a user, but have inhaled. I like the phenolic 290, 2482 in the 500 hz range better than the aluminum units. I prefer cones in this range, but that is outside this discourse. .......

Yes they are designed to be used with the TAD 4001 or the JBL large format compression driver like the 375,2441,2440,2482. By "larger" I can only assume you mean the LeGrand 32 .......

I still say a good phenolic (i.e.2482) gives the most natural, neutral sound quality, in it's range. I think Eminence makes some 2" exit phen. drivers too. .......

That is to be expected with a 2482. That 4" Phenolic diaphragm is heavy. A smaller, lighter Phenolic diaphragm as used in some tweeters can make it to 20K, though. .......

I woudn't trust that answer. Typically you want to cross over the cutoff of a device, not below.......according to what Klipsch's chief engineer told me. Stick with the Phenolics, they are proven with .......

T350's sound great using phenolic, also the JBL 2482. No metallic sound, obviously. The Atlas used in ALK mids was decent too. All don't seem to work harden or crack/shatter. .......

It's hard to horn load cone drivers to that high a frequency and still get any efficiency gain (in my experience). Especially if you want to cross over at 1.5khz as opposed to just having extension to .......

Thanks for the reply! The intended use is for my home rig, and according to a tech guy from B&C, the DCM50 can easely be used down to 300 cycles if it's only feed with a single watt or two and crossed .......

I would prefer a larger horn than normally used with Khorn. Something with a 300 Hz cutoff and 1.5"-2" throat with say, a JBL 2482 that has no problem at 300 Hz. IMO, that bass horn just can't go hig .......

In case of confusion, the Black post is POSITIVE on the 2441 and the 2480/82. Radian Al Diaphrams do an excellent job and are reputed to bring the 2482 to 2441 spec. Whatever, they do an excellent job .......

Apples and oranges in the case of the B&C since they only go to 400 hz. The Altec and JBL are no longer made but they go REALLY FAST on Ebay. You need phenolics if you want 300 Hz. You also will need .......

Some people have built a horn called the Sato horn and used the 2001 as the driver with a spacer to make the rear chamber larger. I *think* that it's a full size 100hz horn, but most people cut it off .......

I have not heard the other cones you mentioned, other than the DL10X, which performed well. A tad less sensitive, more $, more power handling. I like having the mids cover the decade from around 120-1 .......

Have used JBL 2445 and 2482 drivers extensively. Have heard 2446 drivers, they seemed to be cleaner in the high end than a '45, can't judge below 1200 hz, where the units were cossed in when I listen .......

the RCA MI-9584 with the 9595 horn is good down to 200hz, which is where RCA rated it (I have the original literature, plus a set of the horns and drivers). THey are probably the best sounding bi-radi .......

They're interchangeable. I frequently changed the phenolic out for titanium back in the PA days, although the phenolic was good for monitors. The phase-plugs are the same size, unless you're comparing .......

I have listened to the 2470 a fair amount, the larger magnet 1" throat. The top end sounds clean, and works well to around 10k, but drops off rapidly above that so a tweeter is needed if you want to g .......

Yes, I recommend the 2482 to be used above 500 to keep excursion and distortion low. My experience is that a cone driver will sound less objectionable when driven to the max than a 2482. I'm sure the .......
