Denon DL-110 plus a check so he can hit the thrifts, Ebay and buy new LPs online. Choosing a cartridge is sort of a personal thing. Let him do it himself. How can he become an inmate here unless he drives himself nuts trying to figure out what "the best cart is":^)The 110 is pretty close to fitting your sons listining style. Great sounding, un-fussy to set-up and quite sturdy.
