I got my 1200 about this time last and tried carts in this order:Stanton/KAB Groovemaster - Horrendously horrible. HF way rolled off.
Shure V15VxMR - Nice, but a hair dull and uninvolving.Tracked nicely.
Grado Reference Platinum - Nice and rich, but insanely sibilant.
Denon DL-103 - Very nice. Solid from top to bottom, nice mids. I could go for a smidge more HF and LF extension, but this one was, by far, more my cup of tea than the others. This one ended my cart juggling and I could live with this match for life, but likely won't since I'm insane.I ended up getting the KAB dampener somewhere along the line, but didn't have it with the Grado or the Shure. I don't know if it would've helped those two because it sure didn't help the Groovemaster. I think the SL-1200 with the DL-103, going through the Jolida JD-9a phono-pre, is just budget vinyl magic. I would like to try an AT-OC-9 though :-)
