I've recently replaced my Glider S2 with a Dynavector 17d2. It's got to be one of the great analog audio values out there ($750 US). It does some things no other cartridge I'm aware of can do. Part of that, I'm sure, is simply that, at this stage of the game, few are willing to make the kind of technology investment required to manufacture something like this. Dynavector began building the Karat/Ruby line about 20 years ago.

It's a classic. Ruler-flat frequency response, great tracking, and extremely precise reproduction of transients. Without the typical MC presence trough and rising high end, it's an extremely accurate reproducer of music---not hyped in any way. Although, lots of folks do seem to like hype! :o) The mid-range is awesome.

Don't spend your hard-earned without giving it a good look. It's a true reference design (i.e. flat, neutral, and highly accurate). One potential problem: it has an output of about .23 or .26 mv, depending on which of Dynavector's documents you believe.
