Thanks, Fred. That's something I have been ignoring all this time and shouldn't. I know that some triodes vary more drastically than others with bias point, and my 6ER5 is one of them. For the best number for rp I might suggest using the plate curves, but the RDH4's method is of course a good one.

rp = (delta Vp / delta Ip)
while keeping Vgk constant around the operating point.
