Doug,I would say you are on the right track. I have heard the Pimm current source, and it really is an improvement over chokes. They don't sound "solid-state" at all. I never thought I would hear myself say it, but when I heard a direct comparison of various loading options, the results were obvious and dramatic. As a matter of fact, Lynn Olson and I have a whole shelf full of plate loading chokes that were going to be used in the Aurora amps which became orphans after we heard Gary's current sources. Gary has found a way to take advantage of the strengths of the silicon devices without exposing the audio circuit to their weaknesses.
Also, Gary's circuit is quite "bullet proof". He has some interesting stories about some (unintended) torture tests which have demonstrated its reliability. I say give 'em a try!
