Re-packaging of bad design rather than a new, good design (re: 700 series - B&W can do better, but why bother if it sells?).

My current interest is with drivers that can operate across the presence passband (1-4 kHz, the passband of greatest hearing acuity) without the need for multiple drivers (and especially a crossover) in that region. Such drivers include modal drivers such as used in the Cyrus Icon and of course many other technologies and implementations.

B&W have at least replaced the cheap, tinny sounding aluminum dome tweeters in their latest re-design of the 800 series (with what appears to be some kind of coated dome of an unknown metal similar to Focal's coated metal domes - the coating improves the resonant behavior of the drivers, making them less likely to ring and color the sound).

B&W have also replaced their former kevlar hybrid bass drivers with some kind of foam sandwhich driver (which their marketing department calls Rohacell) which is similar in concept to Focal's foam sandwhich (W) drivers.
