Those "covers" are PVC tubing and tech flex. You can get the tubing at any hardware store and the tech flex I got at partsexpress.com:

The PVC is not actually a good choice as there are better choices from a dielectric standpoint. I am not too worried as the wires are coated in teflon and the tube is filled.

BUt, when I make a new set, I will not be using PVC or Teflon for that matter, and plan to use many more strands to see what their effects are.

Anyhow, do try to keep your runs short. 10ft is a bit long, but give it a shot if you have to. 8ft or less is what I recommend.
