Travis, Jim, Dawnrazor, I agree strongly with what you say. I am having to spend time with my wife at a hospital (where I am at as I write this), which leaves me little time to experiment. Also, Downrazor's comment about dumping the receiver is undestood...but this year's unexpected medical expenses have killed my disposable income for months to come. Budget approaches will have to do for now...

...and in that spirit...early this morning I jumpered the fuses.

HOLY COW!!! Those fuses should be OUTLAWED!

The Carmina Burana passages that I mentioned initially, recovered the clarity I had been missing. Quick tests with other orchestra recordings also improved tremendously. This was by just using some lousy old alligator clip jumpers (that do grab both sides of each fuse contact and press them together against the fuse caps).

There were other improvements but I was in a rush to leave and they may have been subjective. While none of this resulted in the high harmonics I am hoping to find, this was a surprisingly great step in the right direction.

At the strong segments of Carmina Burana, the Denon was pushing 89db constant and peaking at 97s (10ft from center, R. Shack meter, A weighted, NO subwoofer). That's when I remebered the fuses were bypassed and decided not to push my luck. I knew that the Denon could soon run out of juice if I went higher...bad to have clipping.

All in all, a good tweaking start. Thanks!
