Steve,
MUmetal is used as a shield in LL transformers. Most of the Jensen and other input & mc transformers use 100% nickel. This is why there are comments in the data sheets such as single mumetal can or double mumetal cans.
My basic feeling is that nickel is good for input and grid chokes. Not so good on parafeed output be them preamp or amplifier. Cobalt is good anywhere but the cost.... ouch!!!!!!
But that is only my opinion, others I am sure will have drastically different feeling.
