Heehee, just kidding. As Werner implied in his post below, many digital filters fill out the extra bits in the expanded word length with some form of dither and many feel it is also useful for linearizing ladder type DACS. And I think all delta-sigma types use added dither. Of course if the word length is already 24-bits the dither wouldn't likely be added since the signal is effectively self-dithering due to the noise encoded in the least significant bits.
